That's crazy cool. I wonder how long it will take in the end if it ever gets finished.

Something I never got clear on. What sprockets do the current Americas and Speedmasters have? Is it 42/18? I know what the 07 and earlier ones have. Also, does Triumph make a 42/18 chain kit yet? Every time I tried to find out all my dealer came up with was the old ones (either 42/16 or 42/17).

I'm planning replace tires, chain, and sprockets very soon. I have over 20K miles on the originals right now. Tires (Bridgestone) are just now hitting the wear indicators.

What shape are your chain and sprockets in now and have you been cleaning a lubing them? Just curious since you seem to be swapping yours out at similar mileage as I did.

I have a SM '07 Model and I have not a clue about sprockets etc. Recently I had the dealer check the Valve adjustments at 11K+ miles and they also syncronized the carbs.

WOW! It was a whole new bike with the carbs running right. Maybe it had not been set up right when I got it but now the acceleration is beyond belief. This bike tears up the road and in 2nd gear gets up past 50 in no time at all and the sound coming from the pipe is outstanding.

Prior to carb work the bike would easily ride at 75 MPH but was kinda buzzy. Now it just rumbles easily and has tons of throttle left for passing or anything else I would want.

The throttle response is wonderful and the bike is running much better than it ever has. I will not mess with it as it gives me everything I need on a motorcycle.

Ian, the chain and sprockets actually look pretty good but the chain has some uneven stretch in it. I figured while I have the bike apart to change tires and with 21K miles on it, I might as well change the chain/sprockets at the same time.

I've always used Maxima chain wax (not heavily applied). I add a little every 500 miles and every 1000 miles I clean the chain (spinning on the bike) with kerosine and re-wax. At least once a year I remove the sprocket cover and clean away any build up. I usually don't have much due to the way I maintain it.
