Hi Matt, welcome. I'm just getting ready to move out of the Poughkeepsie area (north of Danbury, so just a hop skip and jump). Now, just between you and me, and don't let the Speedmaster guys hear us talking, but the Speedie is actually manufactured by Daihatsu Agricultural Implements Division, Seoul, South Korea. The Engines are actually 2 cylinder sludge pumps refitted with Fuel Injection. The America is the ONLY cruiser actually manufactured by Triumph at Hinckley. But again, you never heard me say that because these Speedie lasses are a touchy lot....

You're leaving too Bayern? It seems everyone is moving out of NY...can't say that I don't understand why this is happening but its kind of sad. I still have plans on going back though if everything lines up...I miss the Hudson Valley and some of the best riding that I have ever rolled two wheels over.
Quick question...I have been reading some nightmare stories on the cush drive with the America and Speedmaster. Stories that these drives are worn out with less than 3,000 miles...holy crap! How big of a problem is this with these bikes and why is this happening to these style Bonnies and not the other ones? This seems like a pretty simple thing that Triumph should be able to get right so that it is no longer an issue. Or is this another symptom of internet forums where the problems is not as big as it would appear to be?

Yep, we moved back here to New Milford. Love the riding up in northwest CT, but not the cost of living, nor the traffic which makdes me uncomfortable (around Danbury at least!), so am moving west to Colorado. I'm not personally aware of any big issues with the Cush Drives, don't recall reading of it here, and this is a pretty good source. I've got an '03 America with 33,000 on her, and I believe my cush drive is fine, and I'm not too gentle with the throttle.

Welcome Matt. As you can tell we are not very friendly bunch here. Yes there were a few here whose cush drives became loose. I replaced mine with a T-bird one which fit better and tightened things up at around 25K miles. These may have been the earlier TBAs/SMs, though.

The Americas/BAs had spongy cush drives due to the low power output. Nothing more was needed.
The Speedmasters however, have a beefy one to handle the amazing power, so they stand up well.

Seems like so many people are getting out of the Hudson Valley...have things gotten that bad there? I know I can't wait to roll the Trumpet through that part of the country...that whole ares is really gorgeous. I know the cost of living is pretty high but when hasn't NY been like? I'm going to keep my options open when I look to become a civilian again in a few short years but my focus will be to try to get back to the Empire state.

I was just there in May for my son's graduation. It is pretty, but just so d@mn much green. Drove from Albany to NYC and there was no scenery, just trees. We grow our trees on mountains out west, so you still have a view. I was happy to get to the desert again, where I can see things hundreds of miles away without any trees blocking my view.
