The owner of this bike showed up at my dealer on Saturday. It's a 1947 Indian. It was a barn find and he picked it up for $300 six years ago. The original owner had dumped it in 1956 and parked it meaning to get back to it someday. He passed away sometime in the early 60's and there it sat. The current owner said that he didnt have to do much to get it running and really wasnt much damage at all. He was at the shop looking to get himself either a Speedmaster or a Rocket III. I wish I would have gotten more pics.

$300 doesn't make sense. Thats like getting $100 for a $1. I suppose a fool and his money are soon parted, or in this case, his bike.

Some people luck out. I know of a great find that is not for sale to others but I could get it for $1,000 because I know the guy. Unfortunately I don't have the cash right now. This bike belonged to his dad and had engine problems and had been sitting in the barn for about 30 years now. The son has no interest in it other than it used to be his fathers. He told me when I can find the cash it will be there. Hope he is not tempted by a much larger offer, I did tell him what he has but me telling him and someone waving cash in his face are 2 different things.
EDIT: Unfortunately it isn't the Speedtwin I have always wanted but probably my 2nd choice.

Well Ian, in the meantime, if I were you I think I'd keep my fingers crossed that those two dudes from Iowa on that TV show called "American Pickers" don't make a run through NE PA!

I doubt they would find this guy, place looks to classy for them. My friend has money and his place shows it so I'm not sure even waving money in his face would do anything. That's why when I told him what he has he didn't care and told me I could have it for the $1,000 when he could probably get 40X that.

He offered that but I didn't feel comfortable about it, the whole never loan to a friend thing. It's such a cool machine I even offered to fix it up for him to keep but he has no interest.

Though it kind'a hard to see the front end of that beauty there Moe, it looks as if it still has the girder front end on it, and so knowing that the Chiefs went to a telescopic fork in 1950, I'd say it's either a '47, '48 or '49 model.

Had a chance to buy one from a neighbor in 1967 for $600. It was perfect, he only got it out on block parties and holidays. He gave kids rides around the block. I had the money, but my father wouldn't let me buy it. He said it was to big and dangerous for me. He confused size with speed. I have always regretted not getting it. But at the time I wasn't going to argue the "size and speed" thing for fear he would make my sell the 1963 Bonneville I owned at the time. I got even though, I guilt tripped him about five years ago by showing him an ad in Walneckers and the ungodly money the seller was asking for the same bike.
