Ok, removed the AI on the EFI Speedy the other day using the British Custom kit.
Love the transformation... No snatchy throttle, clean pure roll on, no pop pop pop on decel. All good!
However...I have 4 small rubber plugs left over on the package, I assume to plug the O2 sensors if i pull the tubes between the air intake and the sensors.
Am I supposed to pull the O2 sensors? Is that goingcto muck things up? I can't find a good answer anywhere?

I don't have a definitive answer but may be able to help some.

I have also removed the AI on my '09 EFI. I disabled (turned off but not removed) the O2 sensors using Tuneboy. But the O2 sensors are still in the headers. I would imagine if you removed the O2 sensors without placing resistors in their place the computer will throw a hissy fit and not want to play. We need someone with more electronics knowledge to chip in here.

I replaced the AI pump with a resistor to get rid of the annoying clicking sound I got with the AI removed but I followed others expertise in determining the correct resistor.

I did the same process following the expertise here. Pulled the AI pump (and all plumbing)and installed the resistor so I'm good there.

Did you notice any noteable difference with the O2 sensors disabled?

They don't bother me that much, but if remk ing them improves the performance (without freaking out the computer) then I'd like to see them go.

So... Back to the experts...what effect will capping/plugging the O2 sensors have on the ECU?

I disabled the O2 sensors before the AI was removed. It greatly reduced popping and reduced the snatchy throttle (but not completely) going from 0% throttle to less than 5% throttle.

Wondering about your left over rubber plugs.I seem to recall reading (maybe on Rat forum) about someone asking the same question and they were told the AI removal kits were for both carbed and EFI models and the plugs were superflous to the EFI models. My memory is a bit vague so I could be mistaken.

BUT did you plug the airbox where you removed the AI tube? One of the plugs should do this if you haven't already plugged it.

After speaking to a triumph mechanic he told me if the popping isn't overly excessive don't worry about it. I asked as I was worried this popping was going to damage the engine. He explained it will have no effects on the engine it is just the sensors causing unburnt fuel in the exhausts to ignite to ensure cleaner running.

He's right - it's nothing to worry about. I found it a bit annoying and wanted to get rid of it. I was more concerned about getting rid of the EFI snatchy throttle that the AI and O2 sensors make considerably worse.

One way to check is to chase the wiring back from the O2 sensors & just unplug it & see if you get ant error codes.
Don't know about the Triumph but when I turned the O2 sensor off on my KTM using tuneboy you could remove the sensor from the header without any adverse effect. Then you just have to find the right bolt to seal the header back up again.

The bike will run OK with O2 sensors and standard exhaust, if you add a custom or free flowing exhaust the O2 sensors may cause the ECU to run in closed loop.

Hey Davo - can you clarify? Do you mean that if you remove the AI without disabling the O2 sensors it may cause the ECU to run in closed loop - and would this only occur on closed throttle?

The first time I rode my bike home from the dealership it had the AI disabled, and it ran fine. It wasn't until I installed the custom exhaust that I started having problems. Bike stalling, snatchy throttle and backfiring.Disabled the O2 sensors with Tuneboy and it runs perfect.


What it can't reach it spits at.

If you disable the O2 sensors with the TuneBoy, then they can and should be removed without the ECM getting upset. Leaving the O2 sensors in the down pipes while they are disabled will soon render them useless, they should not be in the pipes with heaters disconnected.

Perhaps I did a boo boo here and led this post a stray...the before mentioned mystery plugs would fit the Air Pressor Sensors ((item 6) and remove the tubes to the throttle bodies. (items 7 and 8)

The plugs that come with the kit are for the carb bikes. DO NOT remove the tubes from the TB's, they are needed.
