I think the one that is closest to what you want and least expensive to change the parts over to what you like about both.

Greetings one and all from rainy Seattle, Washington!! I'm a newbie rider (I don't count moped, mini-bikes, and the like from my youth), completed the Basic Rider class, was planning on buying a Yamaha until my brother, the hard core biker, got me looking again at the Triumphs. I considered the Triumphs briefly before, but figured the Yamaha would be better because it has a bigger engine and Yamaha is better known. OK... I was misguided, I admit it. However, I have seen the light and am planning on getting an America with the blue/white colour scheme in late June, after I finish a big job o'seas. I've spent the past few months reading this forum and trying to figure out my priorities in mods. Obviousy the AI has to go ASAP. I'll probably switch to a more respectable, but not too obnoxious, set of pipes at same time. I'm thinking TOR longs, but still reading up on Bubs and T-bikes. And do something with the airbox. I am interested in the Freak as well, but I don't have alot of tools/space on hand to do it myself, may have to let dealer do it. That or just keep original airbox for now. After that, with some riding practice, I'll get a wind screen/lowers. Then I'll start with the little things such as oil pressure gauge, clock, kneepads, tall sissy bar, bags, etc. I'll probably have more questions once I actually have the bike in late June. I'm just trying to decide on dealer. Neither local place has really impressed me. The salesman in Lynnwood told me he had an 06 SM, but couldn't figure where the ignition key went for the America when he went to fire it up. He was looking around up by the speedo. The showroom America, at dealer in Issaquah, had loose screws on the left brake handle assembly. I sat on the bike and started tightening the assembly by hand. If anyone from the Seattle area can recommend one dealer or the other, please let me know. Anyway, I like all the good intel on this site and hope to contribute what and when I can.
Blue/White 2007 TBA, Thruxton needles, Unifilter, AI removed, Polaris Bellmouth, Bubs, Nology Coils/wires, Lightbar, Ricor Intiminators, Hagon Nitros, Tall Sissy Bar w/luggage rack, Dart flyscreen & Lowers. 130 Mains, TrueGel Battery MG12-BS.

Hi all! Chopperpaul here, I am a lurker because of my weak typing skills. This was my identical twin brother's favorite web sight and he posted all the time. Sadly my brother (Counselor) passed away two years ago today. He and I built custom bikes together and won many trophies at shows with our many builds Harleys,Nortons,B.M.W.s,etc and of course many Triumphs. I thought he was nuts when he sold his two year old Harley to buy a brand new Speedmaster in '03.(He kept his multi show winning '72 Bonnie chopper). He loved his speedmaster and I knew I had to keep it when he passed, increasing my collection to seven customs in my garage. I have just finished some radical changes to his bike in anticipation of a 1st place trophy at the Mass British Iron Association anual spring show in the Hinkley class. I'll post some photos soon and let you all know how I do at the show. Cheerio,(that's what you guys say, right?)Paul

Very sorry to hear of Kevin's passing. I am honored to have his SM right side cover plate on my bike. He sent it to me years ago. It will never come off...

Dave, Had I known about the Guzzi California before I bought my Speedmaster it may have been near the top of my list too. But, I've settled in with the Speedmaster and glad I did. The forward controls are nice and like you said it just feels right.

Thanks to many on this site for all the info, been lurking for over a year. Put almost 12k since January 06 on my BA-been riding since '76 - BA is the best bike I've owned. Does anyone modify the Triumph touring seat adding a rider's backrest? I want a nice looking backrest that looks professional like the seat was made with the rest as an option-like Triumph should offer. Thanks!
'05 TBA....Mulberry/Graphite....lot of chrome...904 BB from Bonneville Performance...gutted stock pipes...ghetto freak..19.5k miles...still looks new-but makes more power ;-)

Not sure about that, but I just got a new TBA about 2 months ago and I did ask the lady about fitting a sissy bar, and she said, "no, some decent panniers would be good, but the ride on the pillion is much better than the fender pad on the speed master, added to which, I like being able to get off when it all goes to ******.." - She knows me too well, that girl.

My name's Harry and I've just got back into riding after a thirty year break. At easter I bought myself a 04 speedmaster and I'm loving it. She's basicly a stock machine bar after market pipes ( very similar to the thunder bike pipes ) and I've just done the air bleed removal kit. I"ve joined up here pretty much to pick up lots of info as I hate not knowing wot I'm up to. cheers

Actually you can take my signature as a bit of tongue in cheek. Black is my favourite colour, both my car and truck are black, and when I bought my bike I did so with the idea of respraying the tank to black. However now that I have lived with it for a while, I wouldn't change it for quids.

Interesting place, so much to read and so much to do to my 07 S/Master ( black, of course ) but think I'll just go for a ride! Have to come back for another look, the sun is always shining here.

I have been checking this site for the past 2+ years, but only started posting when I got my bike this year. I cannot say enough about the group of people on this site and check it every chance I get for information and ideas. My bike: 04 America, green/silver, AI removed, K&N Air Filter, Tall Sissy Bar/Luggage Rack, Chrome Choke Knob Future Additions: Chrome Sprocket Cover, Chrome Footrest hangers, Engine Dresser Bars, Light Bar, Custom Mirrors, Nology Spark Plug Wires, Leatherworks 127+2 Bags and Easybrackets, Chrome battery cover, Carburetor Work (and all not necessarily in this order). As you can see, I have got plenty to still do, and this site will be with me at every step of the way.

Hi all, Name's Harry. I've been lurking a while now and love this site! Helped me spend more money than I initially intended. Got my BA 6 weeks ago and just back from the first service. Took care of the AI, added the FREAK and EPCO's straight cuts...Oh yeah!!!

Sure Ed, I'll give you an opinion. Go with what ever your budjet allows cause there are no differences between the two. My choice would be the 03 cause it's gonna be cheaper and these bikes are mostly bullitproof anyway. Simply put, if your're a rider, buy the older, if you're an invester, buy the newer. (all bets are off if one of them are red, cause all the really "with it" cats here know red is cooler, even speedmastergirl who has a black one but is trimmed in red!)

Bob Walden here in sunny, currently frigid Missouri. I do not currently own a motorcycle (had a Honda 350 in the 70's and a Suzuki in the 80's). Trying to decide which one I want for my retirement bike. Actually I'm pretty sure I want a Triumph, that's why I'm here, just want reassurance. I posted a Why Triumph? thread. Hope no one thinks I was trying to stir up trouble. Not being a current Triumph owner, I didn't think my opinion matters much in this regard, so few posts. Well I lurked for a number of months and then became a member shortly before I bought my bike. I introduced myself then and again when I got my screen name changed. I wondered what it would take for me to get my status upgraded from Stranger to something else. I guess it is the number of posts and not the amount of words I shove into a post. I am a wordy sort. It's what we detectives do. I wish it was a cool as it is on TV. Name: Rick Brown; Occupation: Major Crimes Detective; Home: Northern NV near Carson City; Ride: 08 America, stock awaiting windshield.
