I want to get an airbox removal kit but it looks like their is more than one out there. I saw one at British Customs and another at newspeedmaster.com. Does anyone know the difference in the two/ have any opinions?

The big consensus on site is: buy the one from newspeedmaster.com.

Or triumph performance has one too. I bought the freak kit and a year later moved my battery and eliminated it all together. Looking back I would do a ghetto freak set up if you want to keep the stock look. I thought it was pricey for a poor fit. Bolt rubbed the pods and I couldn't get my cheese graters back on because the holes didn't match up well. If you like the open look you can do that for 1/3 the price. Here is the tpusa link www.triumphperformanceusa.com

I bought the Freak from newspeedmaster but once I gopt it was disappointed. It worked OK with some tweeking to make things line up but it's a lot of money for not very much. Had I known what it actually consisted of I would have made my own. If you can do your own it does the job.

I like the empty look that the Freak kit allows. Does the ghetto version do the same. Does anyone have pics?

The Freak does not leave the open look it leaves the bike looking stock but there is no air box leaving room to mount other stuff.

There is a DIY kit available from Bellacorse. Anyone tried one of these? Probably the commercial version of the ghetto freak.

If youre looking for the open look then youre talking about relocating the battery, ditching the side covers, and using k&n pods. If you wanna keep the stock plastic then you want the kit from newspeedmaster the "freak kit" If you want the open look, check out this link and let me know if youre interested. http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/forums/...part=1&vc=1

Nothing but good things to say about BrokenFixed's kits! Good stuff, highly recommended, and really alters the look of the bike (for the better!)

So brokenfixed, what did you do to put in the k&n pods? Do you see any performance benefit? I.E. i thought you needed the freak kit for the pods and i dont want the stock look. So if there is an easy/cheap way to just get rid of the airbox and put in pods ide be happy.
Also, don't worry, the battery relocation kit is on my to-do list.

Brokenfixed, do you have any pics how the fuse box and solenoid is mounted and how you arranged the wires after putting on this kit?

The process is pretty straight forward and isnt too complicated. Ive had quite a few customers over this past year that had the same questions as you. I would say that organizing the wiring harness to fit under the seat is the trickier part. Ive been trying to make a complete kit so guys have everything right in front of them but I'd have to go on the books to get wholesale prices from k&n. So you'll need to get the pods separate as well as a couple other parts. I got mine at Advanced Auto Parts. They had to order them from their warehouse it took a day or so. They match internet prices so I brought a printout with a lower price. Theres 2 model numbers. Left and Right RC-2900 (right) RC-2890 (left) Anyway, you need a "carb brace" and a "crankcase breather filter" along with the k&n pods and my bracket for the complete setup. The carb brace is to support the carbs after you remove the airbox. Newspeedmaster.com sells a shiny piece of steel for $40 to do this job. Or you can use a small 3/8" turnbuckle from home depot and a 1/4" bolt. It basically spans between the upper engine mount with a bolt through an existing hole, and reaches down between the carbs to hook on under the bar between the 2 carbs. Read this http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/forums/...e=3&fpart=1The crankcase breather filter, is a tiny filter that mounts to the tube coming out of the crankcase that used to hook into the bottom of the airbox. You'll see it on the top of the engine casing running up underneath the airbox. You can get that filter from newspeedmaster.com. Right here http://newspeedmaster.com/html/crankcase_breather.htmlFeel free to ask me any other questions, its not a problem at all, at first its hard to comprehend, but once you get the bike opened up and learn the components, everything finds its way together. Of course adding more air means adding more fuel and exhaust so you'll need to rejet and look into opening up those stock pipes or getting some new ones. Heres a site to learn how to rejet. http://www.dinqua.com/Triumph/carbs1.htmlHeres the under the seat view. You'll see that the fuse box isnt rigidly mounted. Its held in place by its own wiring. And on top of the battery clamped to the battery strap is the solenoid.

no problem at all...just send me a PM when youre ready to buy a bracket. And if you think you can make one yourself, go for it and I'll give you a hand with any questions.

Thanks for the reply!
Looks like a squeeze there. Mine is an EFI, and has a couple of sensors more to squeeze in and the wiring order is slightly different. But I think I should be able to work around it.

yeah Ive never sold one to an EFI customer before so you'd be the first that I know of with that setup. Could be a couple of things to work out differently. Keep me posted.

So if i just got with removing the airbox and replacing them with the pods does anyone know which jets i should use when i redo the carbs? I have an '04 speedy with long TORs and AI removed (if that makes a difference). I also live at well below 1,000 ft.

in your photo I noticed the addition of your crankcase breather-does the length of the rubber hose matter/?

I doubt it matters. I just used the hose that previously attached to the bottom of the airbox. Brings the breather back to pretty much the same spot as in Tom's pic.

yeah thats the stock breather tube. If you look closely I used the little metal bracket that holds back those little wires near the sprocket cover to hold the breather filter. I just lined up the bracket upside down on the top two bolts and bolted the sprocket cover back on. Then mounted the filter to that little tab.

Thanks for the info-I didn't think the tube length would matter.I cut mine about aninch and half past the 90 bend where it slips on the crankcase nipple-with the filter upright.Have beat the ****** out of three baffels(stock exaust)man thats one tough job removing those suckers-removed a.i-installed k&n filter in stock air box-rejetted 130 mains.2005 speedmaster (also have 2003 thunderbird)love them triumphs."Friends wonder about friends who ride hardley a davidsons"

So If I make my own FREAK kit, can I keep the stock look? Or is the air box holding some plastic cover, battery or the cheese graders on or anything? What I am gathering I'll need air filters, crank case filter, rejet and something to hold my carbs? Is that It? Anyone know of a post step by step of air box removal?

Just get a couple pod airfilters and start trimming away your airbox where they hit. And don't cut off anything that is used to mount your side cover bits. Simple. Or eliminate the airbox altogether, get Brokenfixed battery relocation bracket, and run pods wide open like me and the people who have BF's bracket. Or say the heck with it, pull your snorkle, pull the little rubber restrictor thingeys near the carbs inside the airbox, and drill a few holes in the bottom of the airbox in the oval inside the filter. And then, regardless, rejet your carbs (or remap your EFI) and ride the p!ss out of it.

Yes, but the ghetto freak isn't rocket science.
I may have saved a copy of the GF PDF file at home. I'll try and remember to look for it.

Anyone have a link or instructions for the ghetto freak? I can not find any. What filters flow and filter the best? I want the stock look but not at $300.
