Turn of events... My plug wores arrived, they threw my bike back together, but cant get spark to the right cylindar... GRRRRRRR!!! They said that they tried replacing the igniter, but still didnt get spark. They are going to check the pick-up coil tomorrow, but that doesnt really make much sense, because that would affect both sides not just the one. Maybe some ground issue somewhere? When I took it in, both sides were firing, just not good.

Bill...but I don't want you to be right. But, you are. Ordering from Prococom right after lunch. Shop called and they swapped igniters from another '04 and it worked.

Grrrr... It's going to be about a week until I get my CDI from Procom. Luckily a friend of mine is letting me borrow his America until I get my bike on the road. He's also got a Rocket III Touring, so he's not missing out on riding either.

I got my Procom igniter today, spent a whole five minutes loading the software and downloaded map #5. I only had a chance to ride a couple miles (too much traffic to really give it a good test) and it's alive! Better test will be tomorrow riding to work in the morning at 5:30 am with not much traffic. If this map doesn't work well for me, a few minutes and I can try a different one.

Must be a good feeling be on the road to recovery. And with your computer prowess (i.e. software, downloading maps, etc) you'll get 'er dialed in just right in no time. Nice!!!

I'm mostly glad to finally be riding my bike instead of borrowed bikes.

Yikes! This is exactly the same symptoms of BOTH my buddy's and my bike (03 America and 05 Speedmaster). Glad we came across this thread. PROCOM will be the next order! (when I get some cash!)
Thanks guys!

Hey guys I see a CDI from a 06 speedy on flea-bay, think it will work on my 05 america? I have had the 1 cylinder not working on startups a couple time and thinking this might be it.

Just got back to this thread. Sorry I was right Soren, but this is becoming a very common problem with the bikes. So common that it's the first thing I think of when the symptoms appear. At least Procom came up with a less expensive than OEM solution.

I’ve seen a few of these threads over the past 5 years on the igniter failing and thought to myself "I guess I got lucky with mine". Apparently my luck just ran out. I noticed some odd intermittent performance problems recently. Very brief in duration, those made me wonder if I had picked up some bad gas or the “hidden†filter was clogged. But today, it was much worse. Rode @ 30 miles and then had to pull over to answer a call. (My week in the IT Support rotation). I sat in a parking lot talking for @ 10 minutes. The bike started up hard, instead of very easy when it’s fully warmed up. Had next to no power initially, but then suddenly cleared up. I stopped at the store a couple of miles from home, and the same thing. This time it didn’t clear up. I had no choice but to try to nurse it the last 5 miles home. Luckily it cleared up after 5 minutes and just as I came to the 55 speed limit sign. Checked connections when I got home and everything seems good, but that right cylinder is not firing for (now) the first couple of minutes after I start it, and is getting more intermittent when running. Seems to match the symptoms in every igniter thread I’ve seen. The timing of this just sucks. I'll pull the tank off to get the part # on the igniter and then order the ProComm tomorrow, but being Labor Day weekend, no one will see the order till Tuesday and the NE rally is 8 days after that. I am hoping they will be able to get it to me in time.

Well dang Carl... that sucks! Your story sounds really close to my story. I ended up thinking a bad coil cause it's only my right cylinder that doesn't fire. I ordered a set of Nologys but they're not in yet. Meanwhile if there's any wisdom to be had in my thread, fill yer boots! It's all so danged mysterious! http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/forums/...ge=3#Post462578

My buddy, just installed his Procom, BUT he now has difficulty starting (the bike now runs great on both cylinders). 8 out of 10 times he needs a battery boost to start it. Anyone seen this before when using the Procom?
PS. Still waiting for Santa to give me some cash for my Procom!

Don't pull the choke out until after it starts.
This seems to be a problem with a number of users

I dont have a problem starting, but idling seems to be an issue, but my bike is running a bit lean.

Probably a carb adjustment would help starting and idleing plus those are programmable, right? Might need to try a few different settings until you guys get it right. Not speaking directly to anyone just generalizing.

Thanks for the tip. Mines never worked correctly!
Right now, we're leaning towards a bad battery, which was maybe just bad timing with the Procom replacement.
We will look at the Procom settings/maps as well.
Thanks! Will keep ya informed of our slow progress!
