Very cool Greg, maybe you'll make the SWTF next year. I'm sure you'll be able to meet up with Mike (FCTush, Montrose) and/or Bob (wrwallpi, Grand Junction) some time. There are a few miles between though.

You mean driving across western states isn't as short as going across Connecticut or Rhode Island?

Congratulations! I lived in Glenwood Springs, Colorado for 7 years went to school in Greeley and still have a sister in Broomfield. You'll not be too be far from Rocky Mountain National Park where there will be plenty of cool roads to ride your bike. The more I type the more I envy you. What the heck am I doing in Oklahoma? I hope everything goes well.

Much more scenic though . You can see for hundreds of miles . The days sometimes don't seem to be long enough when you're riding, even in the summer.

Well, as your grandpa used to say...."HOT ******", Greg! I'm very glad for ya, ol' buddy!!! Ya see, didn't I tell ya to keep pluggin' away and eventually this would all happen?! (...yeah well, okay...maybe your grandpa might've said that too!) Congrats!!!! (...and yep, like Bill said, we'll expect to see ya at next year's SWTF!!!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I think I might be able to squeeze it in. One thing that I have noted when using Gasbuddy.com to plan gas stops is that there are a few gaps in the trip from Denver to Flagstaff that are outside of our fuel range! But, after some further digging, I think I have found the right mix of towns to keep me under 150 miles per fill up. Really not that much into pushing my bike for 150 miles, even if it is through beautiful southwestern scenery (thinking that scene from "Wild Hogs" where they miss the sign for "last gas for 300 miles" although that wouldn't help a Harley or our bikes much!)

Finding gas is not a problem. It helps to have a couple of singles in your pocket to get rid of the panhandlers in Tuba City though.

well, I officially put in my 2 weeks today. No one was shocked (my screen saver at work is Sprague Lake at Rocky Mountain National Park), but will miss me I think. Good folks, just not right for me. I finish here on July 22, and head west on July 23, and should be starting work on July 27-28 (depends on how far my wife can handle driving each day since she's following me in a 26' U-haul!) 14 days and counting...
I might add that lately my attitude has taken on an unexplained upbeat tone. Hmmm?

No problem. I listened to the whole OK. cut. It made me feel better about not getting to move to Colorado too. I love it when the wind comes rustling through plains. Plus we have some of the prettiest sunsets in the country. Yes Dwight you have to get the John Denver haircut at the KS/CO border. It's state law.

Greg; Glad to hear you are finally able to move to Colorado. I grew up in metro Denver and have riding Colorado for over 40 years. If you need ride suggestions or need someone to ride with, give me a holler. In fact, it's a beautiful day and I'm on my way out the door for a 175 mile ride over Hoosier Pass. ---Bob 303-877-5483 Cell bkoenig1@mac.com

Hey...wait a minute, Paul!
Are you absolutely sure that at the KS/CO border they don't give each and every Newcomer a duly notarized form, time and date stamped, which allows them 5 full business days in order to continue their travels to the State Capitol, and then actually GET their official John Denver haircut IN Denver???!!!
(...well, at least that's what I'VE heard anyway!!!)

Paul, I'm officially banned from playing that song, for, oh, say 20-30 years or so. It has been played to DEATH over the past 5 years or so around here, and to make matters worse, my 14 year old LOVES the song and so every time we get in the car, it's playing before I even get the key in the ignition! But, he and I will be riding the U-haul, and he naturally has the song on his I-Pod, so you can bet it will be blaring as soon as we cross the KS/CO state line, and then again as soon as we catch the first glimpse of the Front Range! As for the haircuts, well let's just say that I'm responsible for all family haircuts in our house, so you can take a wild guess at what we'll all look like shortly. Now if I can just find those round glasses....
Now, my other favorite song related to this search is "Fire on the Mountain" by Marshall Tucker, which seems very well-suited to a guy who moved his family from Carolina seeking fortune in the west and had a long painful journey getting there! Hopefully, I don't end up like the guy in the song, shot down in his grave just for the thrill of hearing a .44 gun....

Welcome to the Centennial State, my friend. I remember when you were trying to get out here, and ended up in CN, instead of CO. Those gates you see across the interstate, are, unfortunately not to keep riff-raff out, but to close them when it snows or blows. Remember that when riding between October and May, the second week of June, and if on the Divide, the Fourth of July.
Looking forward to catching up w/ you about next SWTF time (that should be some time in late-May, early-June; right, Dwight???????????)

Colorado, beautiful state. One word of caution though; never, never drink from a cool mountain stream without first checking upstream. Why, you ask? Well, there just might be a dead mule just around the bend. That's my hiking Colorado memory (but that water sure tasted good up to that point).
