Well guys & gals.. I was cleaning my old clunker today and the man made rag I was using hit the hot header pipe.. YUP.. It burned on.. How can I get off the mess without hurting the chrome ? I've tried.. Chrome cleaner,good car wax,min. spirits.. Won't touch it.. V.

I did that with my bike cover once.I used a plastic knife and spoon to scrape it off.Over time it will burn and carbonize,just remove it a little at a time.After awile I was able to get the rest off with my thumbnail.

I wiped a shopping bag off Wendy's pipes when I hit it on the road. I stopped and used a cotton rag and wiped the plastic right off while hot. Just polished the spot once cool to finish it off.

Wet down some aluminum foil and go at it. It's much softer metal, won't scratch the chrome, and I was able to clean off a giant patch of melted synthetic jacket fabric that my girlfriend had draped over the hot bike. It also cleaned the place where her boot melted to the pipe. She's deadset on messing up my baby but my pipes look like new again.

I've burned my plastic cover on the headers a few times. Acetone with melt the plastic off without in any way hurting the chrome. You have to keep going over it keeping it wet (non plastic rag) with the acetone and it will get smaller and smaller. You can try rubbing the stuck on stuff with the acetone. It will melt it away.
This totally assures you will do nothing to scratch the chrome or hurt the finish.

i did the same with my bike cover, i used autosol and it came straight off.
EFI Speedmaster, Stainless Ride Slash Cut Silencers. Fly Screen. Oil Temp gauge. Crystal clear headlight. Drilled stem Oval Mirrors. Short Sissy Bar & Rack.

EZ OFF oven cleaner.. spray on.. warm it up ..and rinse off works wonderfull also great for those pesky burnt on boot marks .. lol..

Be aware with autosol,it takes a fine layer of chrome of every time you use it , then one day you have rust , bummer
