I bought a 2002 Bonneville America a year or two ago out of western Florida with 72000 miles on the clock. The mileage didn't concern me all that much as personally, I don't think it's too much. The bike afterall, runs great and doesn't smoke at all. The clutch doesn't slip either. It came with fresh tires and chain, and it was obvious the previous owner took good care of it. I'm assuming that the valves have been shimmed as the motor runs strong.
I used the bike to prototype a few parts and well as putting a few hundred miles on it. And now it's time to sell it. I placed an ad on Craigslist but failed to mention the mileage.
I'm getting plenty inquires and even had a fellow come out to test ride it. But this 72K miles is scaring off potential buyers like the engine is going to hand grenade at any moment.
So I'm turning to you knowledgeable TBA and SM riders who have logged some serious mileage to get your feedback about engine/powertrain lifespan, reliability, rebuild points and such that I can direct potential buyers to.
With appreciation.
