Hi all. I won a set of EFI pipes on e-bay, so have been playing with them. I have an 07 carb UK bike, the pipes I won are of an 09 UK EFI I think.
I already have a set of short TORs but wanted something not so loud, so if you think the short TORs are not loud enough then this post is not up your street, but you may find the detail interesting, I also fancied the look of the full length pipes.
First to see if they fitted.
They did, there is a difference in the heat shield as you can see, I recon its not just for looks as the pipes get extremley hot at the join, probably due to the restriction they cause as standard.( ask me how I know )

So on to the work, I used a 32mm (1 1/4) hole saw to remove the end plate and tube from the pipes, I am not calling this a baffle as the end tube lines up and actualy overlaps the exit pipe of the previous baffle.
My tip is to insert a piece of wood into the the outlet of the pipe to keep the holesaw located when drilling.

This is how easy it is to drill off the ends, battery drill, somebody to hold pipe, 32mm hole saw.
Video of drilling end out

What you see now.

On to the next stage, drilling out a proper baffle, made up ,an extended hole saw.

video of baffle drilling out.
And what you now see.

I tried them on and still thinking of going to the next baffle.
Sound Clip.

I have left the cat in for now, I'm thinking there is not much of a reducer in the inlet to the pipes and the cat probably servs this purpose.

As I said just looking for a deeper sound, should I go one more???

Some more info,

The end plate.

Hole saw, end plate, and baffle.

There are still quite a few teeth left on the holesaw so Its avalible in the UK, can bring it along to Dent if you want, you will need to buy your own 32mm cutter though.

Well done Stephen.

Making extended hole saw is the more complicated thing to do.
I probably make one shortly

Thanks

OK, I had a good run on the bike over the weekend, I decided I would turn up the volume one more click, so...

What you are looking at here is is a view of the 32mm hole cut in the end baffle, through this you can see the tube for the previous baffle. This proved to akward to drill out as it did not line up, so beside it in the baffle blate I went to drill a 20mm hole, this turned out to be 2 20mm holes joined togeather as I positioned cutter wrong after taking it out for a look, good job I'm not a dentist
Anyway you can see through this 8 shaped hole the next baffle tube, but I think they are loud enough now.

And here is what they sound like now, using my phone camera.
32mm and then 2 X 20mm

Nice job Stephen.

Thanks again for the hole saw you sent.
I just drilled the first baffle. It's loud enough for me. I do not want to go with the 20 mm holes in next baffle.

I wrote the procedure on my forum for frenchies and I also draw the shema you sent and added some explanations:

Nice job Stephen, I have a set of EFI slash cuts off the speedmaster, so will be making enquiries, so when that hole saw is up for grabs give us a shout...

Should not be a problem Ray, The hole saw is working its way through France, Thierry ( Tfrenchie ) has it. Im sure they could mail it over to you as they pass it round.

You will of course hear my pipes at Dent next weekend, so you can see what you think. I should think the same size of saw should do the job.

Whats the chance of somebody having a set of standard EFI slashcuts at Dent I wonder slim perhaps.

The end tube/plate is easy to do on the bike, if we had the saw and somebody brought a good battery drill we could sit round the campfire smokeing peace pipes.

See you there Bro.

I thought Lets try a bit more.
Removed the pipes and at the inlet I drilled a 25mm hole through the cat, took a few goes as the hole saw kept filling up. the cat is about 8 - 9 cm deep, below this is the first baffle, I drilled it as well with the 25mm cutter.

After cleaning out all the bits of cat, I can now see daylight through the pipe, the middle baffle is still there but from each end the rest have been drilled, with the end one removed. I can see crescent daylight shape when looking through, the holes are slightly out of line.

Louder now, but a deeper tone than the short TORs not much in it though.

Video of cat and next baffle at the front drilled, at the rear end tube and next baffle removed and next baffle drilled.
