There's been much discussion on the matter.
The igniter is a POS.
Search the miscellaneous forum for "igniter", "cdi", "one cylinder", "miss(ing)". That'll get you started.

The easiest way to diagnose a bad igniter is to swap it out with a known good igniter.

If the bike is out of warranty, and a dealer tries to sell you a new $500 igniter, ask the dealer for a "good will claim." Many here have had out of warranty bad igniters paid for in full by Triumph under their "good will claim" program. Odd as it may sound, the customer usually has to ask for the semi-secret "good will claim" program.

Up to speed:

Readers digest version:

06 TBA, thunder bike pipes, 130 mains, thruxton needles, ai removed, air box has 1 1/4" hole in the bottom covered with screen, stock air filter, floats set just below the top of the bowls, altitude 12' to 1300"

carbs off for the first time to change main jets found float level at a significantly lower spec.
looking for an small inline fuel filter

The bike still sputters in top gear throttle wide open pulling hard past 85 mph and it will act like its lean or running out of fuel. When fuel is drained from the petcock it looks like a good stream fuel. how about a new tap?

removed internal fuel filter.

waiting for new nology coils from newbonneville. One of the stock coil is no good
