you can ride circles try cut off small rivet which holds the tab(or try pull it out with some pliers) it's holds all cylinder in the neck ,try use what left from broken key to turn lock hopefully should pop out and never use this lock again

I forgot I had one of those. Drill the whole thing out would be my next move.

Reeeeal funny there huh? Thanks for the tip though! I WILL ride the bike to work tomorrow no matter what. Edit: Yeah, I'm heading out to the garage now to drill the whole !#%@ out now. I haven't used that much because I was afraid of that little key breaking. When I first tried the steering lock it was haaaard to turn and to get the key back out...

the day I bought my bike I tried to flip the little door over the lock and it was tight, so I've never used mine

it's a bit tricky at first. If your steering is full left, it will not work, you have to turn the key on the left a bit and turn the handles right just a bit, so it will slip into place. Same applies for unlocking.

I use my steering lock every day and would feel vulnerable w/o it. Are you going to get a big chain and padlock to keep someone from rolling your bike away now? Or you could get one of these. http://www.xenasecurity.com/product/motorbikes/alarm/XZZSeries/XZZ6LStainlessSteelPlated/page1/

I already have a disc lock. I used that with the steering lock just to be safe, especially when parked in Oslo for longer periods (over night etc). But now I just take the disck lock with me. I proably will replace the steering lock sooner or later, but for now the disc lock works great. (it's on of those types with a 100 dB alarm built into it). And I no longer live in Oslo (moved to a city a hour ride away) so it's safer in my garage overnight etc.

I learned that Cinnamon Girl needed the handle wiggle the first time I set the lock in Oklahoma City.

AAARRRGGGGHHHHH! I saw this thread, but didn't open it. Yesterday, I broke my key in the lock - fortunately just after it opened. That's what I get for starting to use that blasted lock again! Guess I'll grab a dental pic and try and get this dang thing out.

You shouldn't have seen this thread I got a great tip from a guy who works in a repair shop here, he said that IF you're lucky, you can superglue the broken piece back on the key just enough to pull it out of the lock. It had worked for him one time. Might work for you too?

I know of a guy that used the steering lock to lock his Harley...It takes a fast sharp twist of the handlebars and the lock is broken....no more Harley....

Lucky? Me? Not a chance!
But I will try that superglue trick. Thanks!!

It used to be the same with all bikes, which is why I never got in the habit of using them
I presume its still the same, with all bikes I mean

Soooooo...no one has mentioned this yet but any shaving from the drill are now sitting at the bottom and mixing with the grease for the lower steering head bearing.
If you get to the point you feel you need to drill out that lock you might as well pull the upper and lower yokes (steering assembly) off. You'll have to do it anyway to clean out the shavings.

I can't see how anything have gotten into the steering head bearing since I drilled into the steering lock and not on the outside of it. I haven't drilled through the steering lock either, when I pulled the lock with some pliars the hole was clean as a whistle. I did check for shavings and the shavings that you see on the pic got there when I pulled it out and put my fingers on it. But I can double-check.

My bike didn't come with a key for the fork lock when I bought it. I wouldn't mind having acess to it, but somebody told me there wasn't any way Triumph could cut a key, regardless of vin nunber. Is that true? What to do if I want to have a working fork lock?

Ah...that makes sense if you didn't drill completely through the lock. I can see it happening though...someone going to drill right through the lock and fubar the bearing.

Same here Rich... I started this thread over a year ago on the subject, then just gave up.

No keys with mine either - but I bought from the local dealer (Engle Motors) & they ordered & installed a new lock for me - I didn't even have to ask. Of course that's why I have no idea what they would charge for the lock and/or installation. I do know they had a little trouble getting the old one out because of the little door Dave mentioned.
