I would not be surprised to hear that it OFFSET 5 years of effort. It’s a massive natural event. But that is not the same as NEGATING the effort. If conservation prevented the release of ANY greenhouse gasses, the net total is still less.

“this single action has added emissions to the earth estimated to be 42 times more than can EVER be corrected by the extreme human regulations proposed for annual reductions”. The math there would be interesting to explore. “EVER” is such a long time, but I am sure you have an actual value….

Here’s the bottom line. If I ride my bike 50 miles instead of driving my SUV 50 miles, less greenhouse gases are emitted. That’s a good thing for the planet, and a good thing for my mood. So all I have to say is “Ride a Triumph, any way you look at it, its good!”
