Hi all, I bought a set of control cables (clutch and throttle) from Sel-Motion Motorsports in the U.S. last year and this morning the clutch cable broke.

Well I want to ride my bike to Sydney next week to watch my son March Out of his Army Engineers Course so I need to track down a suitable cable and fit it before then.

Seems this would be easy enough but all the Triumph stores I've rung are saying they don't have any OEM clutch cables in stock and the Triumph Australia Warehouse is out of stock too. Can you believe this?

So my main question is, does anyone know of where I can buy a clutch cable whether it be Barnett or whatever to fit an America?

Any help appreciated otherwise I'll have to drive the car

False Alarm. After ringing 5 Triumph Stores and searching the internet for aftermarket cables, the next store I rang was a Triumph Dealer in Melbourne who had an OEM clutch cable in their warehouse.

So I should have the cable by Friday.

I would have preferred the time to find a nice black aftermarket cable but I'm just happy to have found one anyway.

I'm still curious how it is possible the Australian Triumph Warehouse didn't even stock a clutch cable. In saying that, now I have to find out what the warranty is for the braided clutch cable I bought from Sel-Motion as it's less than 12 months old. Does anyone here know???

Anyway, the main thing is my now being able to ride up to Sydney next week

What's the marketing world coming to when a dealership doensn't even carry a clutch cable. I suppose the main fault is that engineers and cycle companies have to design a new part for the same thing every single year. Add to that, new models with different configurations every other year. I know it's all about selection and inovation, but I still miss the "old" days when there was a fairly constant model produced, with changes in paint and styling for a few years.

A good opportunity to measure the cable and identify the ends so you could go to another brand if this one lets go. I'd bet any number of Honda or Yamaha cables would work, some in a pinch and some just like OEM.

the clutch cable is the only spare part that I carry on the speedmaster. it is coiled up in a shrink fit bag in the bottom of a saddle bag, and its there 3 years. Why, long story short, bad experience in the remote boundry waters area between Minnesota, US and Ontario, Canada. long ways from anywhere.

You're right Keith, there was a bit of tension in my bones cos what I thought would be an simple fix wasn't as simple as I assumed. I'm still dumbfounded how an obvious consumable like a clutch cable wasn't in stock in Triumph Australia's Warehouse. I feel like emailing them on their pathetic inability to maintain simple stocks.

Micah keeping a spare clutch cable on his rides sounds like a good idea too. If I'm able to get a warranty replacement for the one from sel-motion, actually even if i don't, I think I might carry one myself cos there was no reason I can see why the so called "top notch" S/S braided cable let go after only being on my bike for 8 months. Got me baffled other than it being faulty to start with.

Thanks for the posts anyway and I'll let you know if Sel-Motion honour any warranty or not.

Interesting Boof. Not sure how to go about that one. Thanks for the idea. Btw, I was only up at Ningi last week but I didn't have time to ride. I still haven't forgotten I owe ya that Schooner though lol. Next time mate.

I wish I knew about them before Jim. May have saved me $60. Never mind, I needed one in a hurry so I suppose I had to pay for the privelege.

My main problem now is the clutch cable that broke was a bit longer than the America cable I bought and would still have been fine with some adjustable risers I'm getting Eddy to source for me.

So does anyone know whether any of these Honda (or other makes) clutch cables can be bought that are about 3 inches longer than the America's cable???

Same with me. Being so far away from the action, I keep a few necessities on hand. The cable is also in my saddlebags when I'm travelling.
