I was thinking about a Saturday afternoon ride on the BRP in NC, but i'm having a hard time determining where the current closures are. Anybody here been on it lately, or who can confirm where it might be closed?

Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin, US author, diplomat, inventor, physicist, politician, & printer (1706 - 1790)

Ride 215 to the BRP. From there you ride the BRP 11 miles or so then head back home.

"IN NORTH CAROLINA, the road is closed at the following area

MP 399.7 (Bad Fork Valley Overlook) to MP 405 (NC 151) - Asheville Area...The closure will be in place until early July."

Bummer, I going thru there mid June. I was going to check it out on my way to SC.

Unless I'm reading it wrong, that's only about a five+ mile section that's closed. I'd go ahead and plan to ride it, and then just have a detour around that area if it's still closed when you're up there.

I was up on the Parkway today, in the southern Virginia area and down to around Wilkesboro. It was a beautiful day up there. Light traffic, only saw one deer...the road surface is a little torn up in places, but it looks like they're working on it.

The section between NC 151 Milepost 405.5 (southern closure) and NC 191 Milepost 393.6 (Northern closure) is the closed section.

One detour from the South:
Both NC 215 then a bit to the North US 276 are the two last Southern bailouts. Looking at the squiggly lines, US276 is the major rollercoaster that would have you detouring (on NC 110) to the very South side of Canton then heading East on US19/23 to turn onto NC 112 (Southeast) which will bring you to the Northern side of the closure at NC 191 head SouthEast to the BRP.

Regarding road work, I was just on the section from Roanoke to Waynesboro. Not any paving BUT lot's of guard rail construction. On corners. with commiserate yellow sand everywhere! Beware!
