It seems almost everyone who removes their snorkel replaces their air filter with a single Uni rather than a single K&N. When it comes to seperate pods, the K&N rules the day but Uni seems more popular for the one peice replacement. Any particular reason? Does the Uni fit better? Or is it because this is a bang for your buck kind of mod and the Uni a less expensive?
NOTE: This is not intended to be a "my filter is better than your filter" debate. I just just wondering about the apparent discrepency between the two styles. Thanks, Jim

I set my carbs after installing a UNI filter and then I got a good deal on a K&N filter and after installing the K&N I went back to the UNI filter. It could be my imagination but my bike seems to run better with the UNI filter. Just my opinion.

Hmmm don't know where you got that info from. I run with a bellmouth and K&N - no dramas at all.

As a general rule Uni pods flow better than K&N pods, as confirmed by A/F meter.

+1 K&N, more out of habit than performance... I've run them in every bike I've owned so I have lots of oil and cleaner left overs. Never an issue.

What is meant by Bellmouth?? If you only remove the snorkle tube from the top of the airbox, most replace it with a either Polaris or the more expensive Norman Hyde version. Its just a short, wide open tube that directs more air into the air filter and seals the gap between the cover and the filter. **If you have removed the airbox completely...you don't need one.

You took that out of context. I said "It seems almost everyone" That's just an observation from doing lots of reading and browsing the forums on the subject. Based on that I've seen more about the Uni/Bellmouth combo. That's all. I know many run the K&N, yourself included.

To clarify, if you remove the snorkel, you do not have to have a bellmouth. You can just leave the opening alone. Adding a bellmouth slightly increases airflow beyond that of removing the snorkel.

Sorry for dredging up (or is it exhuming?) an old post, but I would have thought that the answer was that the Unis are, and look, cheaper (but may flow better) so are more popular in hidden applications whereas the K&Ns are far better looking and so are more popular in applications where they are on display.
