A Custom Victory SaluteKind of mixed feelings on this - +1 for supporting the military in general and Ft. Hood victim families in particular, -1 using military, tragedy to sell bikes. I lean a little more to the first - but then again I'm not a veteran, nor has (knock on wood) anything like that happened to me or anyone close to me, maybe I'd feel different is either of those were different. I do like what they've done with those bikes, though it feels a bit "non-personalized custom".

donating 100% of the proceeds to victims and their families should eliminate any thought of them doing it to sell bikes.

And that is what I thought until "Are you a current or former member of the U.S. military? You can get $1,000 off a Victory motorcycle through our Full Throttle Salute."

What if H-D did the same promotion? Or Triumph even? But they do it without a bike auction to benefit Ft. Hood victims, does that make it better? I'm just not seeing it being a marketing ploy to sell bikes. If anything, more companies should offer big discounts to military personnel, they are largely underpaid.

Everything, even good promotions, are in a companies interest to sell motorcycles or any product. It doesn't mean that they don't want to honor or support veterans, I imagine they really do. Any for profit company does everything with the idea of future sales, even if it means a bit of a loss right now. That's just business.

Exactly. And the $1,000 off to military personnel is acknowledgement of their sacrifice and thanks for their service to America.
I've seen these bikes in person at the NY Motorcycle Show in January. Everyone wanted one!

Two motorcycles to the army when the off road division has a military contract and they appear to care about military is great advertising. It is also designed to show the "We are American bike builders too" image. 1st and foremost its about the advertising. 2nd most would say its a good cause so its OK> I understand the original post though. Is is ok to make money or business headway on the dead? War is very good for business. DuPont, W.L. Gore, Remington, Boeing, etc. all get real excited about supporting our troops when the fighting increases. Naturally they make billions on death. A couple motorcycles is a drop in the bucket.
I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.

Heck, I hope BMW isn't giving their home boys discounts also, thereby encouraging military service. Didn't we have some trouble with those fella's a few years back....?
