Could be something you didn't think you did? Like leaning or resting something near (or on) the bike that would have flexed the cable over the winter. Maybe now that you are riding again the cable is in a different position? Anyway I'm glad that it only took one tie to fix. my bike collected a bunch of gremlins this past winter.
