Hi, I have recently got a lovely Bonneville America which is now my pride and joy. However the other day i put my cover on my bike too soon and some of the plastic cover has melted onto the exhaust. Have tried all sorts to get it off but cant shift it. Any one got any ideas? Cheers in advance.

I got mine off once with a razor blade. Came right off. I did it as soon as the bike cooled though. If its been through a few heat cycles it may be harder to get off.

Scrub it with a lump (actually you need many) of sugar and lots of water. The plastic comes right off and you won't harm the chrome in process. This is what I did after melting a plastic bag on my bikes exhaust.

I think I remember someone posting to use oven cleaner? not sure which brand... I also melted a plastic bag on mine but I used a scotch brite pad to get it off. DO NOT DO THIS unless you want your chrome to look like brushed aluminum...:) found it!

I used oven cleaner (here in the US it's called Easy Off) to clean my melted boot bits. You have to be careful about the over-spray because it's caustic to paint but it doesn't harm the chrome and it's scratch free.

Mr Clean Magic Eraser. I melted the plastic from the top of my glover to the header, tried all of the above (except the sugar) and the only one that really worked was the Magic Eraser and some elbow grease.
