I have big problems with my TBA. First the bike worked great at high speeds, but when I started slowing down to 50 mph or less the bike cut out and was very difficult to start (scary on the A roads). Looked for air leaks, change plugs etc could not find anything.Took to dealers, they carried out top end strip and regound valves, set clearances, check piston rings and tolerances, compression was restored.
The bike runs better now, however when I slow down for traffic, the bike again cuts out and is difficult to start. One of the baffles in the exhaust is collapsing and the dealer said this is cause, sounds a bit dodgy to me. Any one any ideas. TBA is 4 year old and has not that many miles on.

Good word, yeah that all sounds strange to me. They did all that work to the top end of a motor with low miles? Did they check the coil pickup gap? My bike exhibited symptoms like yours. I pulled the cover, check the gap and found it in the new factory spec (it's wrong in the manual, well updated). I put it back together and it hasn't had an issue since.
Last year, my kickstand spring was weak, causing it to bounce down over big whoops, bridges, etc which turned the bike off. A new spring solved that one.

They did not check the coil at all. I am going back to the dealers again this week as the bike is to dangerous to ride on the road. They charged big £'s for the original work and they are now saying it is the exhaust fault it is cutting out.

I don't think it is the spring, but agree the coil is well worth looking at. Many thanks for the tip

If a baffle is collapsing and causing an exhaust restriction, you should feel it on acceleration or higher rpms. Not deceleration. You should also hear a wheezing in the exhaust note kind of like air coming out of a air nozzle.

Did they give you a reason for doing the top end work? What were the compression readings? I really have a problem with their diagnosis.

Has anyone had their valves redone due to a stalling problem?? Not

You took it in to have a specific problem fixed. They did s bunch of work and did not fix it. It is now their responsibility to make your bike run right.
That means they eat the cost. If they balk, sue.

+1 and might want to tell them you want to get the press involved too.

took back it to the dealers again, they had it for nearly two weeks, said the bike was working again. On the way home it stalled again when I slowed down for traffic lights. The next day when I slowed from 70 mph to 50 mph (speed camera)the bike once again stalled, started once I flicked the kill switch and pressed the starter button. Man this is really getting me down. If it stays at the dealers for much longer I will forget how to ride the ****** machine.

I agree that a collapsed baffle should not cause that problem. If you want to be sure you could just remove the baffles though.

Whenever I have stalled, I just hit the starter button.

Why did you have to flick the kill switch?

Could be that there is a dodgy connection inside the switch block. That is being activated when you throttle off.

I agree, it's certainly worth a look
If it is, you might want to consider trying to get your money back

But in the meantime, name and shame that dealer

Just a possibility, but if the jetting and pilot screw are still at the factory (lean) settings, you might experience similar symptoms. When my bike was brand new it would sometimes stall as I approached an intersection with no throttle. I haven't had a problem since turning out the pilot screw.

Took the bike back to the dealers, last Monday, who knows third time lucky. If not I will certainly look at the switch block, coil, live wire and jetting. I am determined to get the bike back on the road, so thanks for all of the suggestions so far.I will let you know how I get on. Thanks again.

At last I have got a call from the dealers asking me to give them a ring tomorrow. After three months, could I get my bike back before I forget how to ride it? I will let you how I got on and what they thought was wrong with the bike.

Wow, that is awful. What the heck took them so long? I'd be speaking to some Triumph brass. You don't list your location, but I assume it to be England (pound reference earlier). Have you spoken to anyone at the factory management team?

Spoke to the guy in the shop today on the phone, to be informed 'we are scratching our heads over this one'. Basically they don't know how to fix it.The shop has recently lost it's Triumph dealership unknown to me at the time and a new dealer has opened a month ago in the city. I am going down to the shop tomorrow, not sure what to do,take it to the new dealer, take it home and try and fix it myself (got some good ideas off this forum) or get really p******d off and demand they fix it. The shop is Newcastle upon Tyne in England.I am going to have a few beers and have a think.Let you all know what happens.

I would seriously look into CDI or coils. My bike ('Cough and Sputters' thread) is acting up mysteriously too. I wish I had the luxury of swappin' out a CDI or a coil or two. Your shop should be able to perform this rather basic troubleshooting exercise!!

Spoke to the technician today,he said he swapped the coils, cdi, put a home made wiring loom on, tried a donor carb, isolated switches including, side stand switch, put donor petrol tank plus a couple of other things including contacting Triumph and none of these things worked.I am getting really stuck now.Do I bring the bike home and try and go through everything again or take it to another Triumph dealer. Or should I cut my losses and go for another bike such as bmw, feeling rather cheesed off at the minute.

Getting the bike back from the dealer tomorrow. I might take a look at the cdi, just in case the dealer missed it. Anybody have any other ideas in case it does not work.I really don't want to get rid of the tba if I can help it.
