Was going to get the Progressive 412 in an effort to help keep my back straighter and my teeth unshattered when I came across this amazing deal on a set of Ikon 7610 1542 SP8. They look like they will do the job!

So, any tips before I attempt to make the swap? First time changing rear shocks for me!

Thanks!

If you have a lift it is insanely easy to swap the shocks. Just lift the bike until the rear will is just barely touching the ground. Remove one shock and replace with the new one, then do the other. Torque the bolts down and drop the lift. I did mine a few weeks ago took maybe 20 mins tops.

Yikes...

No lift and no torque wrench...

I do have a way to get the rear wheel off the ground though. I usually use the side stand, front brake engaged and my car jack to lift the rear wheel when I lube my chain.

You don't have to lift the bike if you do one at a time.

Yep, that was my plan, to do them one at a time...
Good then.

For the torque wrench, I'll drop by a shop later after the swap to make sure I am up to spec... and try to invest in home for at home!

you dont need a lift. an extra hand to put the 2nd shock on is helpfull though. i just wasnt strong or cooridanted enough to lift the rear fender and align the mounting post to slide the last one on myself. its easy, just be sure to do one at a time and i recommend if you have a helper to take some of the spring load off by lifting on the rear fender a tad.

Good luck and enjoy

Sorry, that was a lucky series of event... for me!

Some guy had a 2003 Speedmaster and his rear shocks were starting to rust, badly. He imported this set of Ikons but before putting them on, he had a change of heart and exchanged his bike for a Thruxton. The Ikons were collecting dust for a couple of months when I passed by and he wanted to get rid of them... I didn't even had a chance to bargain, that was his first price!

Done!

Wow, that was probably one of the easiest mod I have done!
Really nothing to it.

Went for a short ride too try them out... feels nicer than stock! A lot smoother !

Ya scored!! Glad you like me... funny you mention rust, my stock right rear shock developed a case of rustitis on the area covered by the spring.

For posterity:
Remove the right shock. Film the bosses with grease. Place the shock on the top boss then using the shock push up on the bike and place the shock on the bottom boss. A drop of blue locktight on each bolt as the torque is only right round 22nm. (might not be the correct torque, so check it.)

Remove left shock. Grease bosses. Place the shock on the top boss. Too heavy to lift using the shock this side eh? Stand on the left side of your motorsickle. Your back towards the shock. Hold the shock in your left hand, lift on the fender with your right. Or vise versus, whatever works for you, as you need your legs to lift the heaver side being on a kickstand and all... Place the shock on the lower boss.

I tried, but she said they were her good clothes and knocked the camcorder out of my hand.
