Hi,
So, there's a little "plackard" for lack of better word above the starter switch on the right side of the bars. Someone told me that it was for a switch that was either no longer in use, or not in use for US models or something. Anyway, has anyone replaced that with an actual switch? Or maybe just put a switch inside of it? I'd like to wire my garage door opener to it (maybe put the opener in the headlamp housing... or maybe under the tank). Any suggestions on a good switch to use (and a source)?
Thanks.

I've often wished I could use that place for a switch too, but there doesn't seem to be anything available.

Hey Lance, I was thinking of the same thing. I always have the old bulky garage door opener in my pocket. I'd love to have it on the handlebars. Since, I am not to mechanical and/or electrical I'd love to see some ideas others may have.
Cheers, Brent

That needs to be a switch that engages a pressure cruise control.

From a Florida perspective:
Rolling the motorsickle in the garage immediately is nice if it is raining. However, With a breeze outside of the garage, the motorsickles cool much quicker outside, the heat is keep outside and walking the two feet to the exterior wall mounted clicker is well, easy! In a half hour to 45 minutes roll the bike inside the garage. (If'n your garage is as crowded as mine, you don't want to remove your gear in the garage with the motosickle inside anyways.)
More on topic: Who was it that installed a cheapo clicker behind their ignition side fax air cover holder? That was an eloquent solution. Turns out it was the solution implemented by ssjones:

I did something similar to this and mounted my button on the ignition cover tucking it up under the seat a little bit. Works great and it is easy to find without looking.

Does anyone know of a momentary contact switch with a waterproof boot small enough to mount there or on the console?

I looked for a waterproof one small enough for the dash. I did install one that was not waterproof in the dash but it did not last long at all, that's when I decided to put it on the ignition switch cover. I have had it in the present location for about a year now with no problems.

About 3 years ago I mounted a subminiature slide switch in that blanked-out position that originally held a headlight switch. I used a double-throw, center-off switch: forward turns my light bar on, rearward flashes all turn signals, and center is of course, off. The switch I used is similar to these. Note that these switches are pretty small -- a necessity since there's not much room in there. I've got some photos and can provide some additional info/hints on doing this, if anyone is interested. --RT

Not sure how much room is needed. I've found a few but by the looks, you'd have to put it in one of the plastic parts:
chromey one
rubber booted one
marine one
