 Buying advice 2k Triumph Legend

My friend is a new rider, taking the MSF course this weekend in fact. I've been talking up Triumphs to him, and he's been trying to decide between a t-100 and a speedmaster. In his quest to locate the perfect bike he stumbled upon a 2000 Legend for $3200. He asked me if I knew anything about them, if they're easy to find parts for, what options there are for accessories, etc. He was also eyeballing a 98 Thunderbird Sport. I know nothing about these bikes, so I figured I'd ask here. Thanks.

The folks that own them are pretty loyal. One my my Baltimore buddies has one and runs it pretty hard with no issues. My neighbor owns an original Legend. There is an pretty active forum over on the Rat.net site for those bikes. I'd post something over there for some good feedback. That Sport model is definitely a cool bike.

I agree with Al. Those bikes are hard to come by. I wouldn't know whether to get a Legend, Adventurer or Thunderbird. They're all nice.

I'd take any one of 'em. Last year I spotted one online at a dealership 4 hours away. I phoned them to say I'd be there in so many hours to take a boo. When I got there it was SOLD. They really are nice bikes.

My one concern is that your friend has just completed the MSF course. Those bikes have the same triples as the concurrent Speed Triples. It's a lot of power. But I started on too much bike, so I shouldn't talk.
That said, those T-Bird sports are AWESOME. Everything the Thruxton dreams of being.

I do believe there is quite the hp difference here

You're right. It's the 855 from the first gen Speed Triple. Oops. Still, 82 HP in a bone stock T-Bird Sport is a lot for a first time rider in my opinion.

Both are good bikes. The Thunderbird Sport is a highly collectable bike. Both bikes are probably too much for a new rider, but if your friend gets one you will become very familiar with the back of his new bike.

I love my Legend.. great bike! Runs great,looks good, handles like it's on rails and has torque from here to there.
Pretty peppy for a 1st bike though.. I'm thinking low center of gravity, lighter, low cc bikes would be a lot better for a beginner.
