 Chrome tank trim advice?

Ok, so I really like a friend's bike where he trimmed the seam of his tank with a strip of chrome, so I bought some and have been trying OH SO HARD to be patient...(not my strong point) while it hangs and settles it's curl slowly. I have been told to wait for a 70 degree day to install it so the glue has the best chance of adhereing. Since I don't have a heat gun, and I don't have patience, I was wondering if anyone else here has installed something like this and would you think using a hair dryer might bring the temp up enough to help the chrome stick? There comes a time when desperation makes you entertain the most insane sleep deprived ideas.

Whoe there Laurie, take it easy on those sleep deprivation induced thoughts... they have been known to wreak havoc!
There's hope. Does that trim have a bead of glue running along the inside channel? I'm thinking it does and a hair dryer will help. It will make the plastic more malleable, however it will also heat the glue up which makes it take longer to stick. Soooooo, try using masking tape on the trim to help it retain the shape while cooling.
Where are you having problems? Down by the seat? Up front by the console? 'Cause what I ended up doing was using crazy glue to stick those ends down so they wouldn't bust loose.
Hope this helps... and whatever you do, don't loose sleep over it, lol!!

I was gonna suggest that as well, specifically "painters tape" (the blue stuff). It's less likely to leave a residue and won't harm the paint.

Thanks guys! I am going to take pictures this weekend on the ride...
Yes it is the one with glue in it, and the part that I was most ticked about was figuring out how to make it stay as glue sets, especially near the seat.

Well, I installed the chrome with only minimal cursing. It was really wanting to curl but unless I point out the places I had trouble, most people might not notice. Now I'm trying to decide what will be next.

Nice one Laurie! Where did you get that purple tank? It's the same colour as that bike Prince road in Purple Rain which was quite revolutionary at the time!!

I was trying to figure out what color that was...is it purple? I think you've done a nice job on that tank there, Laurie. I like the flame decal on there too.

Get some black rubber trim a little bigger and wrap the console on the tank. Looks nice and neat when this is done. Takes away the big gap and makes the console look cleaner.
A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice.

Yeah, I have a horrible camera in my phone...The black is just not showing well here. Chrome fit on there prttey well though.
Dinqua, can you please post a picture and where you found it? I am looking for something like that I think.

That looks good Laurie.  Mine is loose down by the seat. I'm always sticking it back. I've been meaning try some different glue too. ~Brent
