I replaced my front sprocket last year and yesterday the nut that holds the sprocket on went awol while on the road. I was talking to the guy at the dealer and he said there is supposed to be a plate that keeps the nut from backing off. I need someone to take a picture of their sprocket setup so I can see what he is talking about. I would really appreciate it.

Thank you brother. Too many burnouts I guess. I must have spun that sucker right off.

Behind the nut is a flat tin washer. When you tighten the nut down, you pry, bend, and tap it down so it is against one face of the nut. You can re-use them if you don't bend it in the same place. A new one comes with the Triumph chain and sprocket kit.

Can't think how you lost that - apart from the lock washer mentioned by Lonzo, the nut tightens in the direction the sprocket turns!!

Are you sure it was put on??

With the sprocket and shaft turning in the same direction as the nut tightens, if the nut became loose for some reason, it would undo over time until it fell off the end of the shaft.

It should really be a left hand thread on the shaft, with a left handed nut, so that it would tighten up itself

OMG, a design flaw
