I finally got around to replacing the default map with map #5.....a wonderful improvement!......it actually feels very much like the original Triumph igniter....the lower mid-range hesitation is gone and it's very responsive....my 03 America is pretty much stock with the rear baffles removed and 2 1/2" holes drilled in its second baffle plates.....one of the biggest improvements is how it runs during warm up.....with the default map, its hesitation was unbearable during warm up....now, it's more like the oem cdi and doesn't need its choke out for the first 3 or 4 miles!.....

Are Hubert and I the only ones with problematic procom puters? (Dr_PC) Quote:
I'm having serious issues with the procom CDI. When I first installed it, my bike did great. Then it started dying at stops. It would restart just fine and run. Then it started running rough. I reinstalled my OEM. Later I mounted my procom in a position to switch between OEM and procom. Reconnected procom and the bike ran good for about a minute then it started cutting up, backfiring like the plug wires were reversed and would go dead. It would restart fine then after about 30 seconds the same thing. I contacted procom and they exchanged it no problem...

I removed the procom CDI and re-installed the GILL CDI due to a shut down issue on idle when hot, then a stumble issue off idle when 50+ continuous miles are on the clock. All the symptoms of a coil going south. I tried two other coils off a used 07 speedmaster, new spark plugs, other spark plug wires. All that was left was to reinstall the GILL unit, which corrected the shut down and stumble issues.

Guys, I believe that this forum was instrumental in getting Procom to develop and produce an ignitor for our bikes. What needs to happen next is that everyone who bought one and is having issues with it need to contact Wesley Zhou ( wesley@procomeng.com ) and let him know what the problems are. It won't get corrected if they don't know about it. Strength in numbers!

I've got about 4000 miles since I put my procom on . I'm happy life is good. The only thing I've learned to do (and not comdemen and try to find wrong with) is turn the key off and back on when I let it die when it is cold. I think it reset the procom and it starts right up with a littel choke. I've got my set on 6 with nothing unpluged. 132 jettes and it run's 85 MPH with a 16 tooth sprocket pushing a sidecar. Think I going to put 135 jettes in it and see what happens.rudyr

.....only about 400 miles since installing map #5, but I couldn't be more pleased....I took procom's map description of map #6 (advanced rider) to mean more or earlier spark advance....since much of my riding is with my wife on the bike, I decided that additional or earlier spark advance wasn't going to be a good idea....so far, none of the problems that Hubert and Moe have reported - even before I replaced the default map....I think I will write a note to procom and tell them how poorly the default map works, compared to the optional ones....hard to believe that they shipped the unit with so little spark advance....

Has anyone tried this map(#10)? I just got my Procom CDI and I'm thinking of starting with map #10. It says on the Procom website that it's for "aggressively" modified machines. Mine would probably qualify for that. I haven't seen any feedback on this site regarding that map though. Also I have a question about the difference between the maps that you can download and the number settings on the CDI itself. Just to clarify (I can be dense sometimes ) The instructions say to set the CDI to a number corresponding to the part# on you OEM CDI (in my case #4). This is NOT the map correct? I'm assuming there's only one stock map that it comes with, and dialing in the number merely "calibrates" it to your original settings. So, if I want map #10 for example I would leave the dial set to 4, then install map #10? Sorry but sometimes this stuff seems as clear as mud! Although reading through some of the remarks others have made about this I think I'm not the only one that's confused.

Yes, leave the dial set on #4 (since it matches your part number) and load whatever map you choose.

I have a question for those of you that have the Procom CDI. On the front page of the Manual it states:
" Warning: The maps downloaded or imported must be installed into position "0" only!"
Elsewhere it says to set the "arrow" to #5 based on my stock CDI. So it seems if I want to use any of the downloaded maps I should set the arrow to 0 instead of 5? I'm probably reading too much into this, but I don't want to mess anything up. FWIW, I'm running it with map #10 and the arrow at #5. It's running a bit rough and I'm wondering if I should set the arrow to 0 and reinstall? I think I'm going to try map #9 as it seems others on here have had good luck with it.
Also, I'm assuming I can change maps with the unit installed as long as the ignition is off?

I received a very fast response to my question from Procom. They beat you guys much to my surprise! Here's their response to my question:
Hello Pete,
For the Triumph igniters you will always keep the dial set to the position that corresponds to your vehicle’s stock part number. So for yourself you will set the dial to position 5, and never touch it again. All the maps you may upload will be uploaded into that position. Those instructions apply to every other ECU/CDI unit we produce, but the Triumph application is the exception.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Have a great day!

You can see why I was confused. They had a warning that didn't apply to "us" but never mentioned that.
