I did this mod a while ago. Uni filter, air coming in at both ends. Should I make a bigger hole in the wall between the filter and the carbs where the snorkels were to bring in a less restrictive flow of air. Being that these holes are already as big as the carb inlets already, will this do anything.

Just switch to the two K&N's with no air box.I did a bunch of mods to the stock air box. Finally this past year I got rid of the air box and put the K&N's on.IT was worth the trouble.I thought I would be cleaning them all the time living in the desert, and NO I do not have to clean them all the time, but I do live on a paved road. The power gain is worth the switch.

You might try cutting out some of the "wall" in the airbox. I ended up cutting the box up to put in a pair of pod Uni filters, but suspect the single Uni would have had better airflow if the inside wall were cut down some and leaving the single uni in place.

I cut the entire wall out of mine but can't say how it affected anything because i did so many mods at the same time, including 904 kit, cams, and ported/polished head...

Put it this way, anything done that lessens restriction would have to improve breathability.
I had the same setup as you a couple of years ago and my bum dyno felt good results.
I now have K &N pods with great pipes but in the future I'm thinking I might give the airbox removal kit available from one of our esteemed members a go and then put on the DND pod filters.
From what I've read from Pieman and his link on here to a thread to Ratnet, the guys over there have found some considerable extra gains compared to the k&N's and it wasn't just bum dyno opinion either.
Just something you might want to add to the mix for future thought. lol.

Let me know if you'd like some measurements for the relocated battery clearance staffo. If you send me some dimensions (no metric..haha) of the pods I'd be able to work with that info and note any clearance issues, if any.

I rattled my brain the other day about how I could break down the wall without taking the box out. If I can't think of something, I just might have to leave it for the end of the season. I did however enlarge the opening of the cover by 1/8" all the way around. The UNI filter opening itself is larger than the cover opening so I used a router to carve away the rim all the way around and still have a good seal for the filter. I am not sure if it did anything but every bit counts I guess.

Thanks Tom, I've still got some other projects to finish before I start any new ones but provided i do go ahead with it which I'm thinking I may well do, I'll keep your suggestion in mind so we can sort something out.
To be honest I just have to be totally sure I want to change the look of my bike which the battery relocation kit does.
Thanks for the offer Tom and fwiw I do like the battery relocation kits you make. That minimalistic look really tidies a bike's appearance up quite nicely and don't look too hard to mount etc.
Nice work mate.
Cheers staffo

you need to take the airbox all of the way out. take off the top and just cut out that whole wall. a dremel tool and a steady hand will suffice. I posted some pictures of this mod a coulpe of years ago, I'll see if I can find them. I ran with modded airbox and unifilter with polaris bellmouths top and bottom for several years. A good, cheap mod.

I know what you mean it is a bit of a commitment. Thats why I figured you'd want the measurements first, just to see if those pods will even work should you decide to move the battery. The best thing you could do is keep your stock battery tray and either make your own bracket or buy one from me as a complete assembly. That way the modification would be reversible should you decide in the future to go back. Let me know when youre ready I'm not going anywhere.

What is the K&N part number? and is there a step by step how to to remove the air box and put in the K&N's?

You can also go to one of the sites that sells the freak and download the installation instructions there. They give you step by step instructions on removing the existing airbox. If you have access to a bike lift, its easy. The only thing I would change, is the instructions said you need to unscrew the entire top from your existing airbox. I was able to slide mine out without taking the top off.
