These bikes come lean from the factory. You will have to drop the bowls and see what kind of jetting the previous owner did, if any. Check the Tech vault 2nd post down. Find Pat's jetting calculator and enter your current setup.

I was excited to find this bike in such good condition with so few miles. What do you mean ditch the hidden filter? Do you mean change the fuel filter; to a larger one, I'm assuming....such as I believe the other poster suggested. (You two are suggesting the same thing, right?)

When I figure out what a petcock is, I'll go look at it...

In case you haven't noticed, me dropping the bowels and checking the jets is about as possible right now as using the bike to go to the moon.

I checked the link, but could not find Pat's Calculator. There is a ton of info in the link I need to read, but I didn't see that particular item.
