It's definitely one of a kind and off the beaten path. The original builders put in a stone ****** about 150 yards upstream of the falls and diverted a sluice of water around the side of the mill through several stone culverts to feed the wheel. Very clever engineering to accommodate the terrain.

You can just see the upper part flow control gate at the right of the stone ******:


the sluice has an overflow escape about 30 feet before the gate that controls the wheel speed:
