Looks to me like physical damage, rather than heat damage. These are double-walled pipes, and the most i've seen or heard of happening to them from heat is they turn blue. They would have to get pretty friggin' hot to cause some type of damage like that. And if that were the case, wouldn't the damage be all over the header, not just a patch like that?
