Missing man formation goes like this:
2 riders up ahead a bit, we call them leap froggers. They lead the way and block the traffic so the rest of us can go through the lights/stop signs. Then next is 2 of the officers of our club, side by side, not staggered in this ride. Then the bike that has friends or family our fallen friend, or as was Sat, the Aunt and Uncle carrying the little boys ashes. No one is next to them signifying the missing man.
The side by side the rest of the group. All 4 way flashers are on and if you don't have them, then brights. Passenger pegs are down, again signifying the lost friend. Speed is 40-45mph. Also had some US flags flying...This is the we ran it, others may do it differently, but one of our riders is a Patriot Guard rider and he instructed those of us who've never done this before.
