I put the Thunderbird horn on my America like Soren has on his Speedmaster.
It is really a good idea to note that if you live in a quiet neighborhood, and it is very lazy Saturday morning and an older couple is walking past...That is not the greatest time to test this horn...I thought the lady was going to wet herself...sorry 'bout that!
At the shop I just had to show it off a few more times. I know it is supposed to be an emergency device, but sometimes you just gotta toot your own horn, right?
The horn is loud and will get the attention of bad drivers. I had no problem installing it. I give the horn a solid thumbs up!

Good idea! What's the list price of that part? Do you know who makes it?

An essential upgrade IMO! The stock horn is pretty much a joke. And feel free to toot your own horn here as much as you please!!

Not sure of the manufacturer, but it was like $35 US from the dealer.

Can I get some more info on this horn? I just paid $130 for a Rivco horn and the wiring harness. It's not put on yet, so maybe this'd be a good time to change to a less spendy one.

Thanks

Rivco Pt.# ELCHRN Magnum electric horn kit. $81.99 and Rivco EH290 horn hardware kit for America $39.96. Thought this was the correct one. Thanks for the help.

Here is what the horn sounds like. I recorded it on my phone, so it’s not the best recording, but gives you some kind of idea of what it sounds like, it is definitely loud.

In case you want to order the Thunderbird Horn from your dealer. It is the STOCK Triumph Thunderbird Horn which I thought was pretty cool since It's a solid sound, not the smaller beep beep The stock America horn sounds like. Part number is T2505125.
I wish the recording on Soren's phone did it more justice.

Found it online for $24 and it doesn't even need new wiring. Thank you very much.

No, it's a straight across change. Plug and go more or less. Mine was 32.50 at the dealer.

The only "work" to it was loosening the bolt on it's mounting bracket. Then, just adjust so the wiring on an America or Speedmaster reaches without the horn facing up as a rain catcher. Tighten the bolts, plug in the wires and it's good to go.

I hope it is the old Thunderbird horn. IMO the new one sounds like a monotoned stangled goose, albeit a loud one.

I'm not sure if opinions on the topic of horns are subjective... maybe a bit. My mind kept wanting two things... loud(est) and cool(est). The loud part is self-explanatory, but cool? Well cool meant they looked good and possessed a great sound... like a train at a railway crossing, or an 18 wheeler tearing on by with a wave.

Like you I bought the RIVCO Magnums. I really wanted the RIVCO Trumpets but just wasn't sure how to get them mounted without looking stupid. So I ended up with the Magnums and yes, I had to wire in a relay to take the load away from the switch. But the reason the relay is required is because the horns draw a lot of power which in turn means LOUDER!!

But are RIVCO Magnums "the loudest electric horns you can buy," according to RIVCO? I don't know... but again, they are LOUD!! And feisty too!! With two notes blasting away it sets up a certain harmonic that is VERY attention getting!!

Of course the single-note Thunderbird horn is WAY better than stock... no argument there. And it is cheap and easier to install. Just saying the RIVCO magnums would win a pi$$ing (blasting) contest, hands down.

Just a sec... I'll run outside and blast the horn for you. Bet you can hear it all the way from here!!!

PS... I provide this post in the spirit of being helpful. It is in no way intended to be competitive or opinionated, as in... "my horn's better than your horn." (but it is!)

www.newspeedmaster.com and go under accessories and the horn is about 1/2 way down in the middle of the page.

Annie, Are you sure that's the Thunderbird horn? All I find is the "125 db upgraded horn", which has been available before the Thunderbird was revived.
