Hello all, I just found out about this site and registered today. I've owned my '03 BA for almost a year now. She's my first bike, and the only one I've considered buying after a friend of mine got me hip to the Triumphs when I was shopping around. I'm very new to the riding world, and know I'm no "biker" yet, but after 3000 miles my first season and a winter of craving the open road, I know that this will grow to be a lifelong love.

As I've stated, I'm very new to all of this (I'm only 24), and I'll have a ton of questions about pretty much everything bike-related, so please bear with me. But I'm sure of one thing...I picked the right bike for me. I was considering a Sportster as a first bike because at the time I thought my only "affordable" choices were the Sportsters and Jap bikes, but I came across the BA with only 1000 miles on it for $6300 and knew that it would be mine.

If anyone can tell me how to post my pics, it would be much appreciated.

As far as upgrades, I have a good bit of chrome, the gunfighter seat, Triumph off road shorties, triumph bags, and a windshield. Most upgrades are cosmetic, are there any "must have" upgrades that you guys recommend? Also, I'm considering upgrading my saddlebags to Leatherworks with Easy Brackets because the Triumph bags are so small. Any recommended bags to fit the BA? I definately want to use Easy Brackets though, so I thought the Leatherworks bags would work good.

Anyways, thanks for bearing with me.

welcome, welcome! always glad to meet another Triumph rider...only 24, eh? i remember being 24...i think...maybe it's 44 I remember...never mind...welcome (did i say that already?). personally, i think it's way cool that a young fellow of 24 buys a TBA instead of a Ninja, or a 'Busa or even a Sprint or Speed Triple...indicates a real sense of class to me..(here's where i get holy h*ll from the sport bike riders in here...just MHO, friends!).

You'll want to get rid of the AI toot sweet (that's French...spit...for right quick), make some airbox mods, or at least get a less restrictive filter like a K&N or Unifilter and pull the snorkels so she can breath better. then rejet the carbs so she can get more gas to go with that extra air...for a start...you'll notice the difference without spending a fortune...then you can look at other performance items, like pipes, big bore, cams etc etc etc...your life will never be the same again...your bank account probably won't either!

Hey Mark, come on out to the island sometime and I'll hook you up Definitely do searches on all your topics and I bet you will find out a lot of info, but I think the search only goes back 6 months or something, so you may have to make specific inquiries in the tech sections or whatever. I have a lift and I have done a LOT of the mods guys talk about here, so come on out if you need a hand with something.

Step 1: remove the AI!!!

You can always PM me too if you want.

welcome to the site, leatherworks are nice bags. pretty sure there are pics of guys who have them. this site is bothg ood and bad, good because everyone is great and there is pretty much all the info you ever need, but bad because your credit card may get some excessive use

Welcome!!!

It is the tradition here for any new member to send Jaffa Cake donations (three boxes would be fine, really) to me at my home address. Please PM me, and I'll send you the particulars. I don't KNOW when this tradition started, but three boxes is fine. No, really!

Again, welcome, and I look forward to receiving the aforementioned confection. Mmmmmmmmm...

This is true. But what JB fails to point out is that I am the middle man in this transaction. So send the PM to me so i can give you the shipping details, and then i shall of course forward the said articles on to JB. Minus my modest commission......of course.

Guys you failed to notice our new member is from NY. All New York members are expected to send the Jaffa Cake donations to me, so that I can distribute them to the other southern members as part of the Bonneville America Jaffa Cake Civil War Reparations Program. PM me and I'll give you the shipping details.

BTW- The required donation is now four boxes of Jaffa Cakes.

Welcome, LitzerSki.
"24 and there's so much more...." (sorry, couldn't resist a Neil Young quote).
I would guess your AI has been removed as the exhausts have been replaced but make sure. I'll go along with a better filter (less restrictive). The UNI filter just drops right in. Exact size replacement for factory paper filter. From this website
you can find plenty of things to eat up your paycheck. Enjoy the bike!

Welcome to the site Mark. Others have hit on the first things to do, EXCEPT, get a limit on the CREDIT CARDS!! hide them, DO NOT let anyone here (that means Bonnyusa & Dinqua too) know you have a credit card.

Kidding aside, good to have a new member, a younger member is a bonus.

Welcome to the site,

When you say leatherworks, are you referring to Carolina Leatherworks? I have their retro brown bags mounted on EZ brackets. It works fine. They have good quality gear, I have the heavier weight.

JB is correct about the so-called jaffa cakes, although the whole thing sounds like a pyramid scam to me. Only 2-3 people profess to having actually seen them.

Another feature of the site is the screened, bonded and background checked moder-tators who will happily safeguard plastic cards for you. People tend to go nuts with newspeedmaster, bellacorse, ma's cycle and the like. Order some mints from Brent at newspeedmaster and he'll package up some goodies as filler material. Seriously, the vendors I have dealt with are ALL first rate.

Ride Safe!

Welcome also, from NW NJ. Can't think of a better way to use my 400th post than to say howdy to a new member.Sounds like you got a good deal on a great bike, too bad it wasn't a BLUE one but then they cost alot more. Ask all the Questions you want, even if we don't have a clue about the answer, most of us will give you an opinion anyway. TR

One rule though, the guys with the green name cannot be trusted. Especially that Friar John or as I like to call him the "Post relocator" Welcome to the site, please feel free to ask me any questions when it comes to how your bike works, because as everyone here knows I have the most knowledge when it comes the mechanics of these bikes ask anybody. Whats everyone laughing for???

Hey!!!

I'm not the youngest one here anymore!!!

Welcome Mark. Mine is my first proper bike (though I still have my learner bike...) so I know where you're coming from. Don't be afraid to ask silly and stupid questions...just read the forums out there and you'll realise no question is too daft!
If it's black and silver - that's really the best colour to have. Everyone else is just jealous that they are not luckly enough to have one that colour.

Gina 03 America - Pretty stock - except the TBS wheel... 06 America - missing, presumed in bits. With it's TBS wheel... 09 America - It's very blue....

Welcome to the forum. Ask all the stupid questions you want. I bet we have more stupid answers than you have questions lol.

You picked a great bike and now found a great forum.

Biker? What's a biker? Do you guys see any bikers around here? You own a motorcycle don't you? Then you're an honest to goodness motorcyclist. Welcome to the club. Triumphs are great motorcycles and you should have a good long enjoyable relationship with yours. Instead of trying to jam everything into a saddle bag for long trips pick up a Nelson Rigg, or T-Bag to strap onto the sissy bar. Life is good on the back of a motorcycle. Ride safe.

Welcome, Mark. This was my first bike 2 summers ago, too. I found this site first, though, and this forum convinced me that the Speedy was what I really wanted - not the VTX I thought I wanted.

This place is a fair substitute for an owner's manual. And a repair shop - if you don't mind getting your own hands dirty.

It's very addicting, too - like riding the bikes!

Hold On There Miss Gina,
I wanted a black bike and that's what I ordered. When mine arrived at the shop, I intended to help them set it up but they had already started on it. Then I saw it and my eyes danced - A 2002 Cardinal Red Bonneville America. I asked if red one was available, they said it was going on the showroom floor. I said, "No it ain't!" and rode it home. Now, we could no longer get an America in red when the Rocket3 was released. The Rocket is available in cardinal red - The colour reserved for their fastest bike.
Just Ride Safe!

I'm from Bellwood, just north of Altoona. I've lived in NYC for 13 months now but for 3 or 4 years before I moved, I lived in State College. Got a degree from Penn State in Logistics, actually went to class once in a while too. After I graduated...I stuck around for a little over a year and did the music thing...3 bands playing out 5 nights a week or so. Also was a partner at a guitar shop and a sound guy at a bar.

Cool, which bar did you work at and what muzak store? Played up there ages ago. We used to play at the Ratskelter and some other one which is gone now, and another big club in Bellefonte which I cannot remember the name of. Geez come to think of it, that was like back in the mid to late 80s lol.

Oh no, I think intervention is needed here.

We have a youngster who is being told to grow up. I recommened you change your friends. Hang out here for a while, we will put a stop to that.

So what did you play in PA.

A freind of mine down in Brazil has just got invovled in a Custom Guitar Body company. Makes all of the guitar bodies out of exotic wood from the rain forest. Hes sending me a Bass Guitar body and neck made form a red wood of some kind. Cant wait for it to arrive.

Rain Forest...we dont need no stinking rain forest.

PS, i have no idea how to build a guitar, but surely it cant be that difficult. Neck goes on the left, right

Worked at Zeno's, played at The Phyrst, Brewery, Zeno's and occasionally at Rathskellar. Guitar shop was Alley Cat Music. I worked the shop and was the in-house repair man. It was the kind of shop that always had at least a 6-pack in the fridge. It's been around since '98 or '99 so you probably haven't been there. We make our own line of amps there...best amps I've EVER played. You'd love 'em if you know anything about blues tone.

Welcome to the site. Consider the Ga Rally in early May, most every question you have, and many you would never think to ask, will be addressed.

Question: you started by stating you have owned the MC for a year but just found out about this site. How did you find this site?

Sounds great to me...I miss my delinquent days.

As far as your friend the guitar maker...Redwood is essentially the same as Cedar...very warm sounding.

I played bass in a string band...southern bluegrass and folk music. Bass in a funk blues band...think Hendrix and Zepplin but with an extra helping of funk. Played guitar in an acoustic folk trio...dylan, merle, hank type stuff.

As far as my instruments go...I have around 27-28 guitars/basses now. Can't remember all of them. If you want, I'll post a list of all I can remember.

I stumbled upon the site a while ago google searching for parts for my BA, but kept going. Recently I've had the bike bug and remembered there were reviews for some parts on this site so I checked it out again...hit the forums and got hooked.
