Thanks all for your comments!

I have a 2009 America with EFI. I call it a choke, but as noted it's really a fuel enrichener pull-out thingy.

Although even the manual for my EFI calls it a choke.

Speaking of manual, it says to use the choke/fuel enrichener in the first position when the engine is cold and the outside temp is above 77 degrees and to pull it all the way out when below 77 degrees.

Thanks again for your wisdom on this issue. I always warm the bike up, but this time took a short cut to get on the road and obviously my America was telling me on this occassion, "not quite yet sparky."
