Why didn't anyone tell me this????

I had a small window to ride this afternoon, and instead of warming up the bike for my usual length of time, I put the choke on as usual, then after a bit shut it off, and went on my merry way down the road. It's EFI, so I am thinking warming up is not needed. Shifting into second, the bike whines as it goes into gear, and the engine shuts off. It felt like the rear wheel locked up so I pulled in the clutch and went to the side of the road. Warm up, take two - I let the bike idle and it seems a bit rough initially, but eventually it warms up and I take off again. No problems after that.
So I learned my lesson that even EFI bikes need a proper warm up.
