Well this all started when I got this wild hair to try and roll my own seat pan, mold some foam, and then cut, tool, and cover it in some leather with a personal touch.
I decided to tool in a scorpion to go with the spikes on my bike and I tooled my Dunnspeed name into the seat too.

I rolled the pan, to start it, with an english wheel and then form shaped it the rest of the way. The foam is a high density, closed cell neoprene foam. The leather is 7-8 ounce veg-tanned cow hide and the lace is kangaroo.

It's actually not too bad. I would make a few changes to my next seat but for a first shot, I'm pretty happy with it. Here it is:

How does it feel...
sorry...it's similar to the corbin in terms of the firmness.
One thing I would change is I would narrow the front end a little more because it's a little wide when you put your feet down but great when you're riding. I also might add a little more thickness in the very rear of the seat. It's not bad in terms of comfort. I expect it to form a little to my butt as time goes by...like I said it's firm like the corbin but that's how I like my ride.

Geeze Chris... that is some nice piece of work. No, I mean NICE piece of work!!!! It helps define your bike as yours and only yours. A true piece of art (and the result of a few mind altering endeavors perhaps). I mean, where else to get such inspiration?

But again... very nice!!

Thanks for the thumbs up guys...more to come soon.

I'm thinking about offering to make stuff for folks here...seats and accessories to wallets, leather fork shrouds, tool bags, or whatever.

For example...I think I might offer a custom tooled seat with your design and I'll roll the pan for about 200-250. I'm still thinking about it as it's a lot of work but...what do you think...should I?

I agree...really good job. I like the stitching on it too. I would be interested in changing out my bulky stock seat to something custom for me!

How was it mounted to the front tank mount?

It has another piece of steel that comes off the seat like a toungue. It works exactly like the stock or Corbin seats. Toungue in front and bolt on the back.

I'll get some pics showing the underside of the seat up later today.

Considering the low profile seat at new bonneville is $375 (500 & up for custom work) I think you would have a thriving side business at that price point. Thats a very nice looking seat!!!

Darn nice seat, Chris! Maybe you could make one for me with a "lil monster" logo on it. (ha, ha, hidden joke reference)

That's some good work Chris! I'm too fat for a seat like that, but would you be able to do something like that on a tool pouch or something?

Hey Scott, I could do a design on whatever. Let me know if you really want something specific.

Maybe he can make one with a design that looks ridiculous and can call it a Lady Gaga Special Edition just for you!

Would you re-foam and re-cover a low profile seat from New Bonnville ?...I am looking for high density foam (like a corbin, I like them)

Ya, that should be easy enough. I haven't seen one of those in person yet. I'm surprised it doesn't have a high density foam in it. What's in it then?

So some questions:
Do you want it recovered with the existing cover material or do you want me to custom tool you a new cover?

Do you want the same thickness of the seat or are you looking to beef up the seat some? I suggest the same look
and shape of the original seat.

Hit me with a pm and we'll figure this out.

Well I've done the seat, some fork shrouds, and now it's time for a shift linkage.
I've been wanting one for a while and since nobody makes any for our bikes that are interesting I thought, why not just make one for now.
I used the existing boring rod and covered it.
Well here it is...continuing my low-key spike thing.
I tooled some scales and made holes to add spikes.

Next, I did all my color, attached all my hardware, and sewed it up which wasn't easy in this case as I was sewing in a small tube.

Last, put it back on the bike...

I'm starting another seat that will be a little beefier but still low profile. It will be much more intense and detailed. Looking forward to getting on it.

That's just over the top!!! Nothing wrong with your imagination! Yup, one of these days I'm gonna take you up on your offer to do a little leather work for me... and if it's not the grips I'll come up with something that needs that little 'Chris touch!'
