Anyone had similar problems ?
My tail light works fine. 12v at lamp ,but my brake has only 6v and does not light up . This is obviously a short somewhere ? Anyone have similar ? before I start dissecting the bikes nervous system ???

I wouldn't suspect a short. More likely a bad connection/ground/switch, etc.
Check the voltage on both sides of the switches to help isolate the problem.
Is the problem the same with both brake light switches?
Let us know what you find and we can take it from there.

Yep... if it was a short you'd have 0 volts and blown fuses. Do you get the same low voltage for both front and rear brakes? If no your problem's in one of the switches, if yes then the problem's most likely round the globe socket or the fuse.

Sorted ,
Found that the after market brake light was using a cheap fixing that had corroded , this of course is where the earth wire was connected . Cleaned , renewed with decent fixings and bobs your preverbial .
cheers
