Going to be buying some progressive's for my ride, any opinions (loaded question) on whether the 418's or 812's are worth the extra coin over the 412's. Planning on doing the front springs as well, probably will keep the stock height.

Thoughts??

A really good guy to talk to about this is Fast Eddy. I went over all the various offerings from Progressive with Eddy and although I have yet to replace my shocks, I know someday I will. What he did say was that this is one case where the more you pay, the better the shock. I'm sure others know a lot about them too but just saying Eddy is a great source of information (and the shocks themselves).

This will, as always, turn into a pi**ing contest.
Buy what you can afford and be sure to talk to Fast Eddy or Brent at NewSpeedmaster.com.
Between the 2 of them, they have what the majority have put on their bikes.

The 812's are the same as the 412's, except they are in a prettier package (i.e. flames, slash cut...)
I might have probably gone with the 418's in heavy duty if they came covered or even with chrome caps, but I don't like the look of all that spring.
The 440's are supposed to be the best, but they don't come in heavy duty or I would have a set on my bike.
I ended up with the 412HD

If you're going from OEM you'll probably be happy with the 412's.

Check jcmotors.com they have progressives on sale right now. I ordered the 412's and front suspension lowering kit. 412's were in stock, took them 4 days to get the front kit in and shipped even though they quoted up to 2 weeks.

I went from stock to 412HD. They're ok, but I wish I would've saved a llittle more and gone for the 440's. It's a little better than stock, but I didn't notice a tremendous difference. I'll let you ride mine if you want to try em out.

Not quite riding season here yet. I still have the front wheel off the bike, I stripped the powder coat off, sanded the spokes and clear coated. It matches the back way better now. Not to hijack the thread, I also noticed Progressives on the Xchoppers website for a good price.

Thanks for the input, I think I'm going to go for the 440's. The wife and I don't ride 2 up enough to really need the heavy duty.

Sounds right.. If you are looking for comfort the 440`s would be better..
If you want a shock to make you do the corners like a champ the 412´s would do just fine
