I called two Triumph dealers to see if I could get a Triumph 43T rear sprocket to fit my TA. The new shop manual shows a 43T rear for the 865 SMs but both dealers said that their fish shows the same 42T for both models. I know the 790 SM had a 42T. Can anyone confirm that a new 865 SM has a 43T rear sprocket? It should also fit a TA, and if it exists, I need a Triumph part number to get one. Specialty Sprockets only has aluminum ones. I would like to get a factory steel one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can also use a 43 tooth from a 2001-2005 Suzuki gixxer 750. Its the same bolt pattern for the rear sprocket as the 02-04 BA/SM's
Why do want a steel one oppossed to an aluminum one?

I'm not concerned about weight but feel the steel is stronger and would wear better. Can't understand why the Triumph dealers can't find a part number if it is used on the new SMs.

I called another Triumph dealer today. Still can't get a confirmation that the 865 Speedys have a 43T rear sprocket. Is there an owner on this forum that can confirm? This latest dealer said the shop manual is probably wrong. It shows (43/16) for the 865 SMs. If Triumph puts them on there must be a part number. Apparently, if it's true, all dealers are in the dark.

Just outta curiosity, you seem kinda hung up on getting a triumph sprocket? May I suggest, that you get an aftermarket sprocket, either from Sprocket Specialists or from the jtrsprockets link up above and be done with it. From the amount of hassle you seem to be experiencing with the dealers, I'd tell them to rot and suggest you give your money to the aftermarket that definitely has a 43 tooth rear sprocket. I have a 44T rear sprocket from sprocket specialists, and with almost 10,000 miles on it and the parts unlimited chain I have, I easily have another 10,000 miles left of adjustment on the swingarm ends. Not trying to tell you how to spend your money, but it almost seems like more trouble than it's worth.

You're right Michael, I'm obsessing. I talked with Brent yesterday about the rear sprocket. He's hooking up with a new source and will let me know. He had been getting them from Sprocket Specialist but they were very slow getting them to him. I tried Triumph as I wanted a steel sprocket (my hangup), but I'll get what I can find. I do plan to check with JT as well. Still curious about whether or not the Speedmaster has a 43T. Thanks for the input.

I was also worried about the durability of the steel vice the aluminium sprocket, like I said earlier, the 10,000 miles with good wear has laid that concern to rest. I can corroborate what Brent is saying about long lead time from S.S. I'd ordered from them directly, and it was an easy month, give or take a week, before I got my sprocket from them, maybe these JT people are a little more business-saavy.

I just met with the guys at the new sprocket place. Where Sprocket Specialists has lead times of 6-8 weeks, these guys say they can have custom made sprockets for us in ONE HOUR!!! They even do their own anodizing on site.

So then, what's the problem? That's a heck of an improvement!

I just got my chain and sprocket kit from Triumph. It includes a DID o-ring chain, front and rear sprockets and one master link. A rivet type master link. The type of link you are supposed to use a $103.00 tool to rivet. Where is the clip type master link? Every other chain I ever got included both types of master link. Now you get a little note that states that the clip style is too week and you should only use a rivet type link. BS! I've used clip style for the last 35 years and never had one break! Now I have to find a shop that will sell me a master link. Not one shop up here has one, and their tools are broken! Pisses me off. A warm and dry day and I'm going to be in a cage half the day...

leonard, I gotta agree! I've only had one chain ever fail and that was on a '72 BSA Lightning. The chain broke, but the master link and clip remained intact. I broke a clip on my last chain adjustment after removing two links and used little "E-Clips" from Lowe's for two weeks and several hundred miles until a proper clip arrived. Rivetted links - BUNK! Go spend $103 if you want - for God's sake - it's a chain where's the weakest link?
