it was a hard decisioin to come to but I think i'm going to let her go...with a 2yo and a 3 month old at home there isn't much time to ride. he!! in 4 years i have only put 3300 clicks on her anyway. its sad, but i have been riding for almost 20 years and this bike has been the best so far, my favorite for sure... and when the kids don't feel like messing with their old man anymore i will probably be on the lookout for another speedy...

she is paid for, preserve her. Put her on blocks and cover the shiney stuff with wd 40, put the cover on her and keep her. It may be hard to find one as nice as this. What about the days when you may want to take the kids around the block? All my kids learned to ride "TEXAS STYLE" when they were 3 or 4. (IE: TEXAS STYLE = on the tank in front of me). Heck, Idd just put a 2up seat on her and keep her in the garage.

Sorry to hear about you and your Speedy. Making your children #1 is all you can do and believe me when I tell you, they grow up FAST. Won't be long and you'll be back in the saddle again.
Of course it's obvious you've really made that bike yours and parting with it will not be easy. I feel your pain!!

If you have the space, keep the bike! Besides, those kids have to sleep sometime, right?

Wow, that's one great looking bike. You shouldn't have any problem. If I hadn't just bought mine........

Yeah, keep her if you can In only 10/11 years time, your kids will be nagging you to get a bike, sounds a long time, but believe me, you'll look back and wonder where it went BTW 10/11 years is a long time in motorcycle legistration, and you might not be able to get anything like a proper bike the way things are going

Keep 'er if you can. Even one ride a month is worth it - if just to keep your head clear. You ain't gonna be happy losing a nice ride like that!

Be a shame to lose that beauty. With a newborn coming home Monday, my free rides will soon be limited as well. Still got a half hour each way commute to work. Gotta get my 35- 40 MPG. Yeah, that's it. MPG.

Well, if you must sell...I think $52,148.72 would be a fair price to begin. After all, a true classic won't sell right off will it? Don't you have to wait for the right buyer to appreciate the quality workmanship? Once that buyer comes around, I'm sure you'll be willing to negotiate a little.

Ha. You'll learn. Just come up with something she wants and make a deal. New kitchen cabinets, new wallpaper for the bedroom...something. AND KEEP THAT HOT BIKE!!!!!!! The kids gotta sleep you know. You can sneak off when things are quiet around the house.

I have an 18 Month old, and I do find the time, not as much as when I first bought the bike, but you need the "me time" believe me.

Don't sell! Riding for me is a total stress reliever, even if it's only a 15 minute ride...my kids are grown and parents themselves, so I understand about having little ones, but don't give up yourself totally. If you do you'll loose yourself. I know that sounds like psycho babble, but it's the truth. Even the best parents need a break at times. Keep the bike!!! Besides it's gorgeous!!

How about putting a pillion seat on, then you and your wife could have 'me time' together

Don't sell the Speedy.....like the man said...cover it up with a good tarp and put some preservative on the shiny stuff....load up the seat with Mother's Leather goop....and put it up on a jackstand in the garage...you will never get another one like that and you will regret selling it down the road...
I had a pristine '79 Bonneville Special which I sold to satisfy the wife (at that time) and I have regretted it for many years...

Looks like there's more going on than the time thing. Mud and rocks take time too. Probably more. And definitely more $$$$.
Thinking it's more a bike thing and mom's worried about the kids losing dad young...........and she may be right. I took a hiatus of about twenty years when we started having kids, so I suggest you put that in the bargain; that there WILL be a day when you ride again.
