WoW!!! That really does rip from the Triumph line. The engine, the tank, the whole dang thing screams Triumph.

Yup, it has two tires, an engine, gas tank, seat, exhaust pipe... I see a Honda in that pic, nothing else. Don't see Triumph anywhere in it except maybe the head is similar to the Thunderbird's.

I agree the head looks like it came right from the Thunderbird, Dave. You don't agree that the tank witht the indentation doesn't rip from Triumph? The mirrors are the mickey mouse with the same stalks...not the same?? When was the last time Honda did a p-twin???

The other pics I've seen are complimentary. Not a bad-looking UJM standard.

Is it a 4-cylinder?

Honda has been indenting their tanks for a very long time.
And Mickey Mouse mirrors does not a Triumph make.

Nah, its more of a Kawasaki rip-off

What the real deal is that there is more of a demand of "just a motorcycle", in other words more and more people just want a regular motorcycle. Or you could say that the Honda is a cross between a new Bonneville and Moto Guzzi V7 Classic

Thats a nice looking bike, I had a 2000 Nighthawk 750 for 5 yrs before the '06 Triumph America. One thing about the Nighthawk, it never left me stranded on the road like the America has.

'06 America, Raask foot controls, the bike use to be Graphite and Silver, now its Red and Black.

Since 1985. The Rebel is a parallel twin.

In the picture posted to start the thread I thought it looked kind of triumph-ish, but on my old (very old) monitor that one is pretty dark. After seeing other pictures I have to agree it looks more like a return to a true "standard" type of motorcycle.

I agree. I see a modern update to the Honda CB 4 cylinder line. It looks like a nice bike. The video was cool also.

the jap companies have always copied everything that came before them. look at the goldwing...BMW??? i think it was a 550cc that had the MOTO GUZZI engine, and their p-twins?? hahahahaha the 750 was the closest thing they ever came to doing something special, and that was really a copy. so the way i see it they showed the rest of the world how to mfg a none dripping reliable motor but to say they have done anything different is a stretch. everything has been ripped off from those that came before them. be it Italian, German,English or American. so it never suprises me to see something like this, i think they build several bikes that are straight rip offs from Triumph when it comes to styleing, look at some of their bikes without looking at the motor and you will see Triumph in many of their models. the thing i like most about my Triumph as oposed to a honkasusha, is that it will out handle all of them V-twin and it just has soul, not generic like them. just yesterday i had an older lady come over to me at a gas station admireing my bike, she said after all the compliments about how nice my bike looked and that it looked like a bike should she said "he rides a vulcan, (pointing at the gentleman filling his car) my first husband rode English, Nortons and Triumph's and i wish i could get him to buy one, i really like this one" i told her where the dealership was and she told me they were passing thru on there way to the Keys. of course when i left i let them know i had Scepters for exhust and went on my way. that conversation would not have happened had i been rideing a jap bike or any other v-twin. they have never been the originator they have always done what everybody else done but they done it their way is all.

ENJOY!!!!! NEWT!!!!!

They have a long history of making a very reliable bike and their dealer network is very accessible. Plus, it has fins...

Yep, I'm gonna agree with Bruce here. The bike in question looks much more like a '80s Honda Nighthawk than it does anything else...including any Triumph I've ever seen.

I really only see a Honda, even the head that looks like the Tbird is more like the old Honda head as well as several other Jap heads. I agree with above it reminds me more of the old CB line. My friends had several CB750fours and another had a CB650 twin and that bike looks more like those than a Triumph to me.

However, I'm gonna disagree with Kevin here. While I think this bike is a VERY nice "re-creation" of the old air-cooled UJM motorcycle, I seriously doubt it'll sell very well in the States. You see, american street motorcyclist nowdays seem pressed into "niches", with the vast majority either in the "Crusier Camp" or the "Sportbike Camp", and with the few remaining in the "Touring Camp" or the "Adventure Touring Camp". And thus, a "Stardard-Style" UJM would only seem to appeal to a very small group of riders who would have "nothing to prove" about how "cool-lookin'" their motorcycle is(read: Cruiser) or how fast and hi-tech their motorcycle is(read: Sportbike) is to other riders out their.

Nope, this kind of motorcycle now only seems to appeal to that very small group of motorcyclists out there who couldn't care less about what other people think of their choice in motorcycles and who only want a rational and reliable bike that can do a lot of things well but will never be the best at any one thing.

(...and seein' as how very very few UJM models introduced in the last 10 to 15 years into the U.S. market have been a sales success, it seems there are few of them there types ridin' motorcycles anymore on american highways)

Oooo baby, I am liking that bike. And I just love, and I mean LOVE the sound of an inline 4 (or 6). My buddy recently sold his '82 CBX1100 which was a crying shame I thought. Remember those amazing 6 shooters?

Yep! One of my friend's collection is an absolutely perfect low-mile '79 CBX. It's a thing of beauty, alright.

However, that motor was always WAY too wide for my taste. I always thought a Four was just about the extent an inline engine should be inside a motorcycle's frame, unless of course they'd put six cylinders in a "V" configuation.

(I think THAT would be REALLY cool!)

Yeah, the engine did look a little wide for the bike. But ya know, that thing handled like no other bike... even at slow speeds and the wide engine kept yer legs warm on cooler days.

Anyway... back to THIS 1100.

I get your point. But isn't it odd that the Bonneville Standard is Triumph's best selling bike if this is indeed the case? Or, could we be seeing the UJM standard bike staging a nice comeback with Honda leading the way (again)?

Best looking Honda I have seen in a while. If I was adding to my stable, that bike might find a home. But it would NEVER REPLACE my America!

Oooh, that Daytona SE is quite the good looking bike. I couldn't find the blurb I read last week that gave that title to the Bonnie so I went to the Triumph pages and they tell an even different story, making both of us incorrect...the Street Triple is the official King...Speed Triple Rulz
Quote:

...produce an exciting, exhilarating ride that has made the Street Triple our best selling model since its launch.

But, back on topic, at least it's considered a standard and not a sport bike so that kind of makes the standard resurgence a salient point. Not that it matters, the new Honda won't be replacing my America anytime soon.

Thats a nice looking bike, I bet it rides quite well too.

Dont forget, Honda changed motorcycling more than once, and we are all the better for it, with much better quality and much more reliable bikes with more features. They, in their advertising in the early 60s, made it a recreational activity and much more desirable.

True enough Todd, however don't forget the days of "You meet the nicest people on a Honda" were long ago replaced with somethin' along the lines of..."I bought me this here Harley so people WON'T think I'm a 'nice' guy"...OR..."I bought this here latest greatest Gixxer 'cause I want people to think I can ride like Valentino Rossi"!

Yep, like I was sayin' above, stardard-style UJM motorcycles just don't sell very well anymore to 'Mericans 'cause they just don't give 'em that certain "image"(crap) that they're a'hankerin' to project!

(and Lawd knows, ONLY a "wimp" wants to project bein' "nice" anymore in this day and age of out-right in-your-face crassness...right?!)

Are you talking 'bout me...? 'Cause there for a second I coulda sworn you was talking 'bout me... especially after my comments on liking the bike and all (oh, and my own personal demeanor of generally being nice, of course).
