Correct - many states look for the vin of the donor bike for every single part when doing a mandatory vehicle reinspection. While it does seem strange, I'd say this is a bonafied request (having been there myself several times)and that he'd sure appreciate your help. Only you hold title to your bike and someone else having your vin can't water down it's authenticity. My 2 cents

This is what Michigan is asking me for.vin# s on all purchased "usedparts". New parts are not under this stipulation....and should be accompanied by a receipt from a motorcycle. parts dealer. common sense is do here.and i think we have a winner!
