I'm liking smaller pictures, and I'm more inclined to take a spin with the the one in red and white.

I really like the green one. Too bad it doesn't have a bigger engine.

Been wantin one in red and chrome myself. As much as I love OD green the red/chrome just looks more authentic to me. I've seen them at other dealers while makin pick ups and deliveries but havent gotten an opportunity to ride one.

They don't need a larger engine, 500cc's is more than most people need for everyday riding. I rode one at a dealership in Charleston, it was an older one with a carb but they are nice. The handling is super responsive but being a 500 single they SHAKE, a lot, after I got of from my 7 mile test ride I was all buzzy, sure was a blast though. They kick over nice and easily too.

Motorcycles don't come any more "retro", I suppose. Yeah, they're nice lookin' little babies, alright.
However Leonard, I gots ta disagree with ya about that there "They don't need a larger engine, 500cc's is more than most people need for everyday riding" quote o' yours, ol' buddy.
You see, that 500cc puttin' out only 27bhp ain't gonna cut it for most folks who have ridden motorcycles for any length of time.
Yep, I have taken one of the new fuel-injected REs for a little test ride and thought it a fun little scoot, but riding it down to the local 7-11 for a pack of smokes would probably be all I'd ever use it for if I'd ever purchase one, 'cause it's...well...sloooooooow, to be blunt about it.
(oh yeah, and you're right...the bike DOES vibrate just like any old brit single ever did)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Hey that's pretty cool Dwight! I like the look of the REs... retro as it gets' for sure. And I'm sure they are slow like you said, and vibrate a lot... but I bet they have a nice 'thump' to them and are fun to ride... that true? Because I seem to have this nostalgic memory of a single lunger, 500cc putting out a nice note from bottom to top.
Live to love, love to live.

Well Keith, yeah, it was a "fun little ride" I had on it, alright.(how's THAT for a lefthanded compliment, eh?!)
And the sound was just okay, as it was a bone stock demo I test rode from South Bay Triumph(and now South Bay Triumph/Norton/Royal Enfield, actually) just a few days before Judie and I moved to Prescott for good last week.
(but no, it sure didn't sound or ride near as well as say a Velocette Thruxton or a BSA Gold Star...but then again those bikes were REALLY british sporting singles...emphasis on the word "sporting" there, of course...the RE is more a "putt-putt" machine)
