Just watched the biographical movie, 'Temple Grandin' and have to recommend it here. Totally captivating story about an AMAZING autistic woman. This is a nice break from sensationalism. If ya like true stories, this one's a must!

That's a surprise seeing Temple Grandin's name on ba.com . She is a well known & highly regarded animal behaviourist in the world of facilities & livestock handling. She has spoken at a number of events, though I have never had the opportunity to see her in person. I didn't realize she had autism-aspergers for a long time. I have a nephew with the same diagnosis and he is doing great these days jh

That's right John, her work in livestock handling resulted in over half of the industry switching over to her designs. Her autism hasn't slowed her down a bit and she continues to work with animals and she speaks frequently on the topic of autism.
But if any of that sounds boring don't let it stop you from watching this amazing movie. It had a powerful and lasting effect on me.

I haven't seen the movie, but her book Thinking in Pictures is very good. If I remember correctly I also read Emergence: Labeled Autistic and it is also good.
My son is also autistic; he is not doing so well. A week from his 15th birthday he is non-verbal, and starting to become a physical danger to his mother.

I know just enough about autism to be dangerous. My nephew, who lives 1,500 miles away, was apparantly misdiagnosed until his teenage years. To my knowldedge when his condition was accurately diagnosed, they got him on the proper meds. I recognize that everyone is different.
He's 21 now, but when he was 15- 16, he was getting big enough it was potentially scary. All I can say is good luck to you & your son.

I saw her in person a few months ago, very neat lady, one would not know of any autism. She is a prof. at Colorado State U. and we were talking about cage free eggs for my wife's work, hoping to see the movie soon.
