Riding 2-up with over 300 lbs. total I have no trouble going 70-80 on the highway or faster. Of course, I do have bit more power than stock. A stock bike still should have no problem on the highway. I think they ride great on the highway.
For better highway comfort I added pull back risers and on long highway trips I use my backrest bag mounted where my wife usually rides.
