Congratulations Martin. Just be prepared for lots of red tape from the DCF. A friend of mine and his wife volunteered to serve as a foster parent for a two year old relative who had been abused by either his mother, father or grandmother (none of them would speak about it). My friend was awarded foster parent status, but later the birth mother and grandmother sued to get custody of the kid and would you believe it they won. The fact that this kid was placed right back into the situation where he was abused was kind of shocking to my friend, but under Massachusetts law foster parents do not have any standing under the legal system to protest. Anyway, hope your situation doesn't end up in the courts. It can get real ugly.
