Hi,

Are there any taxes or import fees (into Canada from US) for used (or new) motorcycle parts?

Jim

You don't have to pay duties and taxes if your mail item is:

A gift worth $60 or less; or

Worth $20 or less.

But,

Under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), duties on various goods imported from the United States and Mexico have been either reduced or eliminated. The NAFTA rates apply when the goods you are importing are made in the U.S. or Mexico.

After some searching on line it looks like there is no duty on motorcycle accessories (does not include gloves, helmets etc. It must be for the bike).

Thanks

Ask the shipper to send via USPS.

If you go with UPS, FEDEX or others, they will add on their own brokerage fees and a bunch of miscellaneous charges, ... and they can add very well, trust me on this!

Exactly as perceval said. Only buy if they use USPS for shipping.

I wanted some goods from BikeBandit, they use UPS for shipping.

Value of goods US$500 + UPS charges of US$280.

I bought the goods from else where and they use USPS, all I paid extra was shipping charges. US$35.

Don't know where you're from in Canada, but if you're close to the US border, you can find a place on the US side that you can ship to, they hold the item for you for maybe a $5 dollar fee and you slid over and bring it home. Obvisiouly there are several ways to get it over the border. It's always best to be honest and declare what you have....then you just pay the taxes. Most US companys offer free shipping to US States, so that helps off set the cost of gas when going down to pick items up. I use a place in Port Huron, and get to visit Detroit Triumph as a bonus.

- Definitely ship USPS (US Postal Service).
- The if-you-live-near-the-border idea is a good one, but still expect to pay bringing stuff home.
- Motorcycle accessories are NOT exempt.
- Occasionally it will take FOREVER for something to get here, like my Progressive springs that we shipped on Feb 8 and they're still not here. Aaarggggg!

I always ship USPS to my door. Sometimes I have to pay charges, sometimes I don't. Seems like a crap shoot with Customs... hard to understand why I have take a hit on one parcel, but not on another. Weird but true!

Thanks guys,

It is from ebay and he said he would only ship USPS so that works out great. Now to decide if I really need it.

My wife the UPS broker says that if you keep it under $249 you should be OK thanks to NAFTA

Had our Clearview windshields shipped by USPS Priority Post. It was here in a week. I paid $5 handling fee, and PST/GST to the post office when I collected. Those fees were on top of the actual shipping fees. Nice and easy
