I would have considered a Softail Heritage. They look a lot like HD's I've had in the past once you strip off the innecessary junk like the windshield and designer pipes. I would have gotten as far as the price and that would have been the end of that.
I had been going out of my way when I had a chance to be in the area to go by a shop called British Motorbikes in North Hollywood. There is a really good chance I would have ended up with something from there, preferably a pre-unit 650 with a proper starter. If they'd had a rigid frame 650, so much the better.
What I probably would have ended up with would have been a basket case 650 or maybe a Panhead and built it myself.
