I remember posting here at some point when I ran across one that had never been in the rain OR the dark. Never ridden in the dark??? Why is that a selling point?

Well, lemme see.... If you are talking about the traditional elements;
Wind: Yup, been ridden in plenty of that. Earth: No way out of here but a dirt/mud/mush road, so yup again. Water: Sometimes get caught in that, but I try to avoid it when I can. Fire: Haven't been out in that yet. Although I did have the exhaust pipe set my pants leg on fire once waiting at a very long traffic light.

Wind, rain, freezing cold, and fire. Ok not fire, but hot enough to feel like you're riding into a hair dryer.
And dark, but that's not an element is it? The deer that came within 3 ft was an element though.

I do not intentionally take off from home in rain unless I am going to a motorcycle event and expect it to dry up. On the other hand, I refuse to be intimidated by "20 - 30% chance of rain." Far too many "Riders" put just a few miles on their bikes because they are so afraid of getting wet.
On those occasions when I had to ride home in the rain and the rainphobic have made a comment I just respond with "Anyone who never rides in the rain doesn't ride much," and let it go. On the other hand, I do not ride on ice and snow. Too hard to keep the rubber side down.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

I live in a part of Bonnie Scotland which is on the same lateral line as Moscow, we export oil, whiskey and water. Rain here comes in two kinds - horizontal or vertical, if I was only to take my bike out in the summer sunshine it would be a Tuesday afternoon on the 24th of July as it was last year. Also, kissing your grits is that the same as 'rippin ma knittin'

Is "Kiss my grits" a southern term of endearment or something muttered a millisecond before the first left/right is thrown? Being a simple-minded country boy, my only journey to the south was the Georgia rally a few years ago. How about riding....... "It was cold enough to freeze my grits", or "Wet enough to drown my grits", "Hot enough to bake/fry my grits". One of my favourite movies was the classic "True Grits" I need more coffee jh

"Kiss my grits" was coined by Flo, a character at Mel's Diner from the TV show "Alice". I've lived in the South all my life (AL & FL) and never heard it except on that show. I admit I do love grits, fried eggs, and toast for breakfast.

I remember them ...and don't care to repeat them (but if they happen, I'll cope).
My most memorable was crouching in a ditch full of running water on I-95 while a tornado passed by. Hail Hurts!

Well lets see - elements I have ridden in, snow (but not ice), rain, hotter than heck, colder than....., wind enough to literally blow me off the road. Oh, and the erstwhile dove (flew out of the ditch missed my windshield and hit me square in the chest), elk, bison and numerous squirrels.
Does that count? And my mother doesn't dress me funny either!

That brings up an excellent point - I have found, at least as it applies to me, that when riding in extremes, it is far more enjoyable and far easier to dress for cold and wet than it is for hot and dry.

I've ridden down a road through smoke where there was brush fires in fields on both sides of the road. Does that count as riding through fire?

I live in the United Kingdon (aka the Kingdom of Rain) so have ridden in that much rain my bike has webbed wheels.
Once rode in a hale storm in France - never seem anything like it - they were the size of marbles and it felt like I had been hit by a volley from a machine gun. I LOVED IT!
Only thing that not so keen on is those lovely icy patches on the twisties.

Been there, done that (and still do). There was a time when my old '68 Triumph was the only transportation I had. If I wanted to get to work I had to ride regardless of the light, lack of light or weather conditions!

Yep, that '82 Magna was my commuter vehicle from NC to AL on many a week and I got to experience the wonders of the environment. Hail was the only thing that made me seek shelter but more to protect the tank than anything else. These days I will not purposely set out in a deluge but my rain suit has seen its share of wet.

I've ridden in all kinds of weather apart from 'too hot' cos its never too hot over here My most memerable time was when I got caught in a blizzard, 30mph on the M6, very occasionly a rep in a hurry would pass two lanes over doing about 40 (it was that bad) and the only time I risked a look behind, all I saw was a line of cars and lorrys going back miles, all quite happy to be following me. And yes, I did pull into the next services Ah, happy days

Speaking of "grits" Moe; I was at one of those "Cracker Barrel" chain food places for breakfast a few years ago with an old Montana Sagebrush cowboy & a freshly-minted young man from Virginia. The old sagebrush cowboy put grape jelly on his bowl of grits without asking for culteral permission, the young Virginia man just kinda' stared in slack-jawed amazed at what he'd just witnessed. Regainin composure he said "I've never seen someone put jelly on their grits" Strangely, within 10 months, he & his young bride were back in Virginia
Speaking of weather, I rode in heavy overcast once, maybe twice

I havent ridden in the snow since I was 17. *shudder* I will draw the line there. I pulled over once at a place that sold carports just as a hailstorm opened up. They had a demo out front that was a godsend. I dont like riding in the rain. I doubt anyone does. But if I want to ride, I'll take my chances. Ive been caught a few times, but havent melted yet. Actually, one of the more fun rides I had was racing north /north east with a storm coming in from the west. I rode for about 45 miles like a bat out of h*ll in and out of the rain, trying to stay ahead of a front. Those are the rides you remember!

John, one of my bestest movies when I was a yute: True Grit. Now all I conjure is "I'm the rinestone cowboy" said Glen Cambell during his dui arrest. And the Duke, well, one lung or not, when he reined his horse using his teeth and proceeded to pump a fire storm of lead using both hands, that was a little buggers hero! fleabay has a 97 T-bird for sale and yes the owner says it was never riden in the elements. albiet rain would be one of the four I would first think of. how type A one would have to be to never ride in the rain. hum type a ... never mind. With even a hint of rain the poor motorsickle would remain sheltered. The weather underground has a nexrad radar page. Two river crossings to home and Nexrad can show the one with less rain. most days nexrad is up and suggesting either sr528 or sr520. sometimes the rain suit is worn. or chaps. but never are either of the girls side-standed due to the wet. matter of fact, a moderate rain on the way home (staying well behind cages) and a clean towel once at home is a great way to wash the bike. A simple wipe down. Leaving the swingarm to the next morn... Funny how hot Kim Darcy was back then. yute blood is powerful stuff. Ride safe my brothers and sisters of the wet er elements.

dangit. my stomach is grumbling about right now. We could wax poetic about the forest gump ways to cook shrimp, er grits! But one of the best treats I can imagine, and getting them to caramelize just right takes a lot of time and perseverance, are fried grits. omg. Crunchy as a cracker on the outside and creamy like a nougat on the inside. yet you know that. Fried grits and cast iron skillet blacked red fish or snook served up with some collard greens and pork hocks. Now we talking. back on topic: 70% chance of elemental riding, rolling home tonight.

Comes from the Grit tree (or bush depending on your locale).

No car and work 24 miles from home, so I guess - yeah, I ride in the elements.
I'll even vouch for Steve (scuba speed) off here because I saw him on his speedmaster yesterday riding around in some grotty weather whilst I was at work.
